On Sunday, Phil and I went on the Anti Nazi March which culminated in the Love Music Hate Racism Concert in Victoria Park. Thought I'd post up some photos I took of the event, and of some of the characters there. I've not included any of Hard-Fi, as I'm sure Phil will post up his which are far better than mine!

I could kill a doughnut

Band on a Bus

Even the bobbies seemed to like them

Marching

Stopping

Security on the gate said no 'professional' cameras allowed in the event field, but chief woman said just put them in your bags and you'll be fine. She didn't put a time limit on bag time though smile. Crowd at front of stage throwing water/bear over themselves and expensive kit don't mix so Sigma 120-300mm gets used and fingers crossed there's enough pixels to crop if needed...

Hard-Fi being rather good

I didn't think 'Nazism' was that big a deal in 2008.

How odd.

Anti-racism sentiment very worthy. Strange how it manifests in a desire to "ban" and "stop".

Interesting reportage though...

Yup the Anti Nazi thing was all very odd i.e. stupid. You just wanted to go up to people and ask if they really know who the Nazi's were. Things weren't help by me having 'Springtime, with Hilter, in Germany' playing in my head half the time smile.

Yes it was all a bit too political - I think it was just an excuse for lots of campaigning by the usual suspects - Left List, Green Party, Red Ken etc. One group of blokes weren't towing the line though, they kept shouting out "Vote Boris", "Capitalism's great" and "Get a job" during the speeches. biggrin I just went for the music and the photo opportunities.

Some great shots there, looks like a fun day! Hard Fi are a really great live act aren't they.

Funny though how many people think it's still 1978!

Do any of them have real jobs?

The Nazis were finished in 1945, bit strange to still be waving placards against them, they'll all be 85+ years old now.

the sort of event that you would think any right thinking person would want to attend, but it gets hijacked by the hard left as usual (it's not hard left to be anti-BNP, but they use the BNP in an attempt to whip up support for themselves). I am always amused to see the TUC at anti-racism events, given the appalling race record of the trade unions in the 50s and 60s.

Well you're braver than me Daisy - I wouldn't go anywhere near those weirdos with an expensive camera round my neck!

Now if they'd be camapaigning for something useful like lower taxes, I'd have joined in smile

I wasn't worried as they were a pretty good-natured, if deluded, bunch. Besides there were a lot of police around keeping a close eye on proceedings, with some pretty impressive kit. Sorry I couldn't get any better shots of it, but they weren't exactly willing to be photographed themselves.

Now there's irony for you..

You're in a public place being photographed by Plod but they get all camera shy when you return the favour rolleyes

Have you smelt any of them lately? silly Seriously I have no idea what point he was trying to make with that. There was some pretty wacky headgear on display - Phil wished he's worn his flying hat and goggles!

looking at that Gas mask picture what jumps out to me is a lot of students probably in it for the reasons of its cool to protest rather than actually understand anything.

Whilst the BNP has had a chequred past and possibly has a chequred future it is important to note that just by supporting the BNP does not equate to Racism. Half of the darlings on the march will have no understanding of the issues that are involved in the areas where the BNP flourish (and never will have an idea, real understanding of growing up in the areas)

Have to say the protesters on the main appeared to be little more than middle class students without a real clue of of what they are marching against.

2 years back I returend into FE at a local college and had to endure the political speaches from these kids that were shouting and proclaiming they knew what it was about, how it was like but without any real substenance.

Excuse my spelling

Presumption, presumption and more presumption?

I wonder, how can you tell from somebody's appearance that they are middle class, a student and most insultingly have "no real clue of what they are marching against".
