I've got the Y piece out at the moment to refurb the rack and I noticed the joints were assembled dry. Is this normal and is there any reason not to use Firegum? Surely that's why people have problems with it sealing if it's assembled without a sealant?

Can anyone give me a reason not to use it?

I've always found bog standard silicone sealent works really well... Tried all sorts of exhaust sealents on my exhaust which kept blowing on the downpipe joint. Most of the firegum sort of stuff just goes hard and gets blown out, silicone stays tacky and hasn't blown out yet after about a year so it gets my vote! thumbup
