Which induction? One of your's Piooly?
Discussion
Now that the roads are occasionally dry, I've noticed (while on an airfield) that there seems to be 10/15mph missing from the vmax of my car. Now I'm checking through the obvious issues... induction hosing is now sucking in cold air, not hoovering up dirt and hot air from the top of the undertray... but I haven't touched the induction in 7 months and 15k miles, so that could probably use a bit of TLC. The trouble is I dont know what it is so I don't know what it requires for cleaning. I've checked Eliseparts/Eliseshop and piperx websites but it doesn't look like anything on there. Oly... is it one of yours?
Its a carbon (or carbon effect) cylinder about a foot long and 6 inches in diameter, which has been covered in foam and tape, possibly by one of pvs owners, but could be original. Inside is a cone effect filter with a solid plastic ball on the top. So its over to you.. anyone recognise it?

Hey Mark, sorry i've not returned your call. The induction kit was just a carbon can with a built in K&N type filter with some ducting I got off Oly, the padding was added to stop it resonating
If you take the first row of foam off you can remove the filter from the can via 3 small allen heads.

No worries mate... its all starting to make sense now...
Anyway the upshot is... the filter is well and truely shagged senseless. I know this because I went to B&C today and chanced 50 quid on a K&N 57i - hardly what you would consider a racy induction and fitted it an hour ago. Went out for a quick test and I can't believe the difference its made - at 5,000 revs the car was totally athsmatic before, now its charging to the red line. I'd say the difference its made is not far removed from being on and off cam in N/A Toyota.
So I'm a happy boy for the time being..now I'll have to play around with fitting a new filter on the old one and try and work out which is best!
Oh and Martyn... you'll have to get yourself out on the burger run so we can take the p***... apart from on the Upton by-pass of course.

Hey,
This is not one of mine. Looks like the BMC kit. Get yourself down to Halfords and buy and K&N or Green-air filter cleaning kit. Should come with cleaner and a re-oil spray. Only costs £10. I been using mine for years now and its still not run out. Must have cleaned it and re-oiled about 5 times now... easy to do too.
