The GTA 4 GAMEPLAY Thread
Discussion
Anyone else accidentally bail out of their car each time they try to do a handbrake turn?
Just me then?
I blame the (praps not so awesome) PS3 controller config!
Could we keep comments to gameplay only here chaps. Share what you've learnt/found, etc
Edited to add Neil's comments:

PLEASE, discussion here is JUST for GAMEPLAY (i.e. How do I do such and such mission, or how do I pick up hookers) stuff, and not about how ace last nights game was - thats for the CHATTER thread...
Thanks

Someone tell me that the old GTA thing of the cars around you only being from the same type as the one you are in has gone. i.e. if you are in a crap car then very very few supercars show up, and vice-versa.
And do the NPCs still spawn only in your field of vision. So if you look one way, turn around, then look back, are the same cars and people in the same place?

Where abouts do you find the chopper? Admitedly ive not looked, thought Id ask whilst here before I go back to it...
Has anyone actually made it to the other island? I did, but was shot (on foot, after I accidentally bailed out of my car again) in the subway. I found the subway after an accidental launch over a railing. Might try again and see if I can make it onto the city streets. I'll assume one cant shake 6 stars either, so it'll be short lived Im sure...

I found a cool looking sports car which Id not seen in a few hours of play, got out to thwump a pedestrian, and another pulled up along side... Its a given that only a percentage of cars are loaded into memory at once (there are hundreds of models IIRC) so there are most probably likely to be more of whatever you are inside, then...And do the NPCs still spawn only in your field of vision. The game is just HUGE!
A few things to check out:
TV in the apt. Especially 'The Mens Room' LMAO!
Bumping into pedestrians randomly and see who retaliates
Jacking a car from someone who would rather keep hold of it, they literally grab the door and keep hanging on until you can shake them off (or scrape them off
Little Jakey - funny as fook - can't understand a word of his patois
Fighting goons - control system is pretty good
Rooftop fights - nice! Very freeform
Cars and bikes - have driven a fair few of each now. Really like the Chopper for some reason.
TW@ internet cafe - lollers - fun surfing
Dating Michelle - she puts out fairly easily
Just so much to do and see - love it.
If I had one gripe, it would be the rather grainy texturing (obviously a LOT of memory management going on) but in some ways, it adds to the 'grittyness' of the city.
Have only seen a tiny fraction of the city. Love the way each district has an individual look/feel which is also refected by the inhabitants.
The screenplay is simply superb. The animations and voice acting are Oscar worthy. Facial animation (expressions, subtlety) are very convincing - you really get 'into' the game.
Right - that's enough for now - more to do/explore....

Only played it a little bit so far.
Loving the wide range of cars and how much more detailed they are. Funniest thing was stealing a people carrier from a posh couple and then the bugger tried hanging onto the door handle as i drove off. It was a good few hundred yards before I shook him off lol
Also punching the baddy through a window and watching him fall from a high building was cool.
I think online play is only going to be any good with friends. In my first free roam game i got my arse shot everytime i spawned. then when i got in a car and ran one of them over got a tirade of abuse from a sore loser kid. Methinks there is going to be a lot of attitude online in this game.

For everyone who has a standard tv and not High Def might be as dissapointed as I was with the visuals at first.
This might be obvious to those in the know but I dont have a clue about these things. If you go to display and turn off flicker reduction it sharpens the image by 10, stops the grainy\blurry textures. Enjoying it a lot more now.
