Currently selling my Z4 Aplina Roadster S and am thinking about getting an SLK 350 or 55 AMG - will definitely opt for the 7 speed auto box and the sport package. Are there any other features I should be looking for?
The Z4 does 27.6 mpg and I'm happy with that, I think the 23.5 of the AMG is starting to be a little low! The other option is the new TT Roadster, can anyone suggest why the SLK would be a better bet than maybe the 2.0TFSI and then tuning it?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Airscarf is must on these for resale i think .
Certainly is, and it works a treat. That and heated seats make sub-zero top down a pleasure. The auto box is brilliant - if you get the paddle shift, it adds another mode to C and S - lunatic (if you ignore the paddles it leaves change up later that S
(The AMG won't auto-shift in M)My 350 does 26.5 mpg so far. (its a 2007, the old model)
My real world average for the SLK55 was 22 mpg overall with 26-28 on a run so it's not too bad given the performance available, and it sounds great. Airscarf, COMAND and phone prewiring are supposed to be essential for resale but I had no problems at all selling mine without phone prewiring. The standard multispoke alloys aren't popular, nearly everyone goes for the AMG 5 spokes which are a no cost option. The other thing that kills the value as with any car is ill advised colour choices e.g. red leather which is a deal breaker for a lot of potential buyers. Residual values are good though, I sold my high spec SLK55 back to the supplying dealer for £2K over the trade book price and they have it advertised for £43K, at 32 months/10K miles old, which is only a £10K saving compared to buying new with the supposedly essential options.
Just ordered a new 2008 Facelift SLK AMG 55 for my sister.
I think that Airscarf, Command, Parktronic and Telephone Pre-Wiring are desirable for these cars.
Nice touches are the Remote Key Roof option, Folding Mirrors, Rain Sensing Wipers and Ipod Intergration..
As for Colour IMO i think Black with Black takes some beating...

Thanks a lot guys, I think the 350 is probably more than enough power - I don't really use the power of the Z4 that much but I do fancy the noise of the 55AMG. Shame about the colour comments - I did quite fancy a silver car with the red leather but if its a silly idea then maybe not!

It's not a silly idea at all. It might be that when you come to sell it, someone else really likes the interior. Personally I'm all for having exactly what you want, as it's your car to live with for however long you own it, but of course in the real world you have to balance that with potential consequences. I don't think red leather would be disastrous but it might have an effect. It's something you see a lot of in the US but not so much here. Silver is probably the colour that goes best with red leather anyhow. I did see an SLK55 on the road once in white with red seats, and I thought it looked terrific, but of course resale might be tricky on a white car. Nowadays, a good way of seeing what's popular is to go to the manufacturers website and get a feel for the spec of the approved used cars. For the SLK55, I expect the majority are silver/black and black/black.Sorry Gary, Can't be doing that changing gear bit! That's why the Z4 has to go due to knee trouble. Although seeing the front page of the telegraph this morning regarding vehicle tax banding makes me think I should keep it as the Z4 is tax band PLG (£185 per year) despite being a 2004 car - something to do with importing from Alpina Germany!
