I lost the nut from my parking break adjuster (left it in a socket and it fell out somewhere )
The other nut is unmovable at present, I have tried M8, but it binds after about three turns. It's not 5/16.

I want to buy two new nuts but obviously can't take the cable to the store, I vernierd the outside diam it is .322 at the top of pitch.

Anyone

.322 is 5/16 remember 5/16 has UNF and UNC fine and course. count how many threads per inch it has.

5/16 is very close to M8. but as said it has completely different thread length.

I have a feeling it's UNF but it won't break the bank to buy two of each.

BTW this cable adjuster is best left well alone - once it's set up for the cable.

The adjusters to tweak the pads are those big slotted screws at the top of each caliper.

I bought two of everything similar, then my wife wanders past and says "do you need this nut" that she saw on the floor !!!! after I had searched for ages

Very true, mine came out of the clip in the centre consul while I was trying to free the stuck nut. It was a real XXXXXX to get back.
But all is working now.
