Hello all,

I'm vaguely considering chopping in my S1 Elise for something else and like pretty much all males I've always fancied a Ferrari, the main thing that puts me off is running costs. I'm a reasonably competent mechanic and look after my Lotus myself, but am I right in thinking that a DIY serviced Ferrari will be nigh-on impossible to sell? If I do resort to having one looked after by a garage how much is routing servicing and what about the bigger bills (clutch, cambelt etc)?

Thanks!

Allow for around £1500 per annum - unless you can find a nut & bolt restoration car from top independent that has been driven regularly.
I recall mine swung from £1100 to £2000 depending on what it needed at the time.
Foskers & KHPC are both good on 308 servicing.
Enjoy.

If you're handy with the spanners they are dead straightforward, and the info is all out there.

I'm fairly useless so I had mine looked after, once I'd sorted out the maladies associated with it being used too little (stuck calipers, corroded diff plates) it was relentlessly reliable and cost me servicing only in the best part of 30k. The only nightmare was the fore/aft coolant pipes corroding through - they run in the floor sandwich and are a pain to replace, but we're talking hundreds not thousands.

I'd second the suggestion of a 1.5K budget per year. I had my car looked after by an independent specialist; annual servicing was around £350 and in the time I had it I also needed the carburretors stripped and tuned (£650) and a new water pump supplied and fitted (£600). As another poster stated, these were exceptional items mainly as a result of lack of use by the previous owner.

When I started using it as it was meant be, it didn't put a foot wrong. beer
