Which iPod holder/kit?

(Following on from other post about Parrot kit)

I want to get a half decent iPod holder for my new 3 series and I'm in a bit of a dilemna. I know I could get a proper aftermarket integrated one that will work with the steering wheel controls...however I'm not really sure what advantage it will give me compared to having the thing almost in reach anyway, the car has an aux in socket.

Questions...

Assuming I install the Parrot handsfree bluetooth carphone kit with the steering wheel controls adaptor, is there enough physical space behind the stereo for a hard-wired iPod dock if I did go that route?

If I decided to just go for a standard cradle and used the aux in socket, can anyone recommend a decent looking cradle (iPod is a previous generation 30GB classic)
