Looking for some more advice. As some of you may have read on my other thread, I have just bought a Spesh Hardrock Pro disc.

Took it out for only the second time last night for a few miles and I'm finding the front forks are very soft (Suntour SR forks). On the top of each strut there is a 'dial' for adjustments. Right hand side is the lock out and unlock setting, left hand side has + and - dial. How should I set these for the firmest setting ?

I realise the shocks aren't the most advanced or expensive but they came on the bike and I don't want to upgrade them yet as only just started riding again after 10 years so probably don't warrant anything higher specced/priced just yet smile

This may be a schoolboy type question but when I last owned a bike they were made of pig iron, weighed a tonne and had concrete filled tyres wink never mind new fangled springy bits hehe

Simon.

Basically, I'd imagine that turning the adjuster clockwise (presumably in the direction of the + ) will increase the preload, making the forks seem stiffer and less responsive.

If (as is likely) the springs are coil or (even more likely) elastomer, your best bet is to swap them for firmer ones appropriate to your weight.

Have a look in the handbook that came with the bike, the chances are twisting it towards the + will give you more preload (i have marzoochi forks that have suntour parts in them and this is how mine work).

Cheers, have looked in the handbook briefly and couldn't find anything. Turned the knob to + all the way last night. Much better.
