Looking for original Mech Assault for Xbox

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here has a copy of Mech Assault (not the platinum version...it must be one of the early original copies), that I could borrow to softmod my Xbox???

Sounds a little trusting, but I've tried everywhere and the only copy of the game I can find will cost me €60 which is a total rip-off!!!

I will happily cover all postage costs.

There are ways of softmodding an xbox without it.

What's 'softmodding'

I got a copy at my local Game for the 360 - by accident if I rememebr correctly - I'd got Mechassault 2 but they'd put 1 in the box.

Careful searching of the second hand bit of Game etc. should quickly find you a copy...

I'd rather not do the hot swap method. I've heard it go totally tits up and mess both Xbox and PC. Frankly I couldn't give a monkeys about the Xbox since it only cost me a tenner but I'd rather not mess up my PC!!!

Yeah, there are huge voltage differences between the xbox and PC, so the method I chose to use was to power the xbox drive from the PC PSU. I've done it four times, without buggering either up.

If you're that concerned about your PC, do you have access to an old machine?

Unfortunately I gave my old PC to charity



But I didn't realise you could use your PC power supply.....I'll keep it in mind for a last resort, but I'd rather just chip it or get Mech Assault. I've rung every 2nd hand games shop in town and every copy I've found is the platinum edition which is useless

What other options do I have apart from hot swapping, game flaw softmod or chipping?

After pondering a short while I thought sod it and gave a hotswap soft mod a go on the Xbox....AND IT WORKED!!!

It's probably the geekiest thing I've ever done but I've got an unlimited supply of games and all sorts! Dead chuffed!

It only took 2 PC's, one Xbox, a TV and monitor to do!

Its easy peasy!

Not as good as chipping, but it works perfectly. Make sure you back up your eeprom details!

Do you know where to get all of the apps?

I went the whole hog a few years back, and stuck a 300GB drive in mine, so if you're not prepared to solder in chips then you're a wuss.

XBMC is the way forward.

This includes emulators, XBMC (which I've just loaded....amazing bit of kit but need to work out how to add my networked file to the library), backed up games...., and loads more.

I've also just bought an HD component cable on eBay as well as a remote, however I need to sort out the fan as it's bloody noisy and gets on my nerves.....

That aside....the whole thing was a piece of cake and cost me ziltch!

XMBC allows you to choose fan settings.

Replace it with a roller bearing one

You can add RSS feeds (inc PH) to it as well. Ours is connected to the network and streams MP3s and videos/DVDs
