Hi all,

I've got a noticable vibration through the gearstick on my CV8, which is linked to engine speed rather than vehicle speed. I had a similar thing on an old Carlton GSI, which turned out to be an imbalanced flywheel (the bonding was failing). My car has done very low miles (13k), so I doubt it is a wear and tear thing.

The car is due for a service soon, at which point I'll get it checked out anyhow. In the meantime, has anyone experienced this and/or have any ideas?

Thanks ~

Morning all

I think they all do it in varying degrees. The two that I owned certainly did, one worse than the other. They all seem to make a rattling noise from the box when pulling at low revs which disappears as engine speed increases. Neither of these foibles seem to be detrimental.

sorry to disagree with the last poster but I've never had any vibration or rattling noise at any engine speed/load

I've always had a bit of a vibration from the gearstick and from what I remember, despite stigs comment, I think its quite common. It improved when I had the ripshift fitted but didn't disappear altogether. Word of caution - don't drive with one hand on the gearstick as I used to, apparently it can cause a problem because the gearstick can't vibrate freely. Can't remember the exact details but it was posted on here some months back, so if thats how you are noticing the vibration stop doing it!

ah is it the gear nob vibration thing not the stick itself? It does it when v cold until warmed up and I think its due to the fixing inside the nob itself

mine did it when I first got the car but was fixed under warranty. I believe there is a damper around the base gear lever.

Just to add to this topic. Does anyone else experience a slight knocking noise from the drive train when the engine is turned off? Even with the clutch depressed?

I test drove 3 6.0 VXRs before I purchased mine and came to the conclusion they all experienced this upon engine shutdown. I assume it such a big block and gearbox the mounts are not manly enough. Anymore light on this?

If this can be fixed under warrantee I would like to know how. Drive looked at mine twice and put in a light fluffy collar thing which did nothing. I did ask Monkfish about it and they said it could be fixed under warrantee. They also said the rip shifters fix it.

Looks like it is a common problem. It is vibration transmitted from the rotating assembly. Mine was worst between 2000 - 3000 rpm at high load. A raspy buzz like the V8 engine note being played through a distorting amplifier. It would also "rattle" or "tick" occasionally on the Motorway. Gripping the gear lever strongly would dampen the noise.

I changed my gearbox for the VXR type with better ratios and is better in this respect too. The shifter looks the same however. There is a slight difference in the bell housing.

It's a very "deep" vibration through the stick, definitely not just the knob itself. Thanks for the responses guys. It seems I'm not the only person to experience this, which puts my mind at rest a bit.

I have another rather dull question to ask on another topic, but I'll leave it a day or two to avoid boring you all too much smile

I guess the issue is, is this noise caused by a gearbox fault or a vibration which is amplified up the gearstick. My previous car (M5) had the gearknob changed under waranty - and this fixed the problem

Think the vibration is eveident in most Monaro's, its a huge drive train and the odd clunk bang and vibration is nothing to worry about.
BMW spend millions and millions eliminating all vibration and clunks etc. HSV/Holden don't worry too much about it thats why these cars cost half the BMW costs, if you don't like the odd vibration, its time to buy a BMDoubleya

Right, you asked for it.

The vehicle manual seems to imply that the battery in the keyfob isn't replaceable (though I haven't cracked it open to check yet). However - If I lock the car using the keyfob remote, and then unlock/open it with the keylock, the alarm goes off.

So, the question was: How do I avoid becoming stranded on the inevitable day when the keyfob battery runs out and the security system is armed?

I've been in this sitation with cars in the past, and I'm hoping there's some way to avoid it on the Monaro.

Try these:- www.stangshiftergaskets.com/

T56 Set required, you could just use the gaskets for the shifter handle, would probably make a difference..

just put key in ignition and turn to 1

the correct key will turn the alarm off in the scenario you suggested
