There's a lot of generally very good discussion on this board concerning the use of speed cameras to the detrement of "traditional" traffic policing methods.

Surely the government (by which I mean the various parliaments and local authorities), which has a duty to protect its citizens, is failing us by reducing the numbers of traffic police while investing vast sums of money on speed cameras, therefore exposing us to increasing numbers of drunk, drugged and just plain dangerous drivers.

Statistics may suggest in some areas that numbers of drunk/drugged/bad drivers are reducing, but if there's no-one out there to catch them it's hardly surprising.

IMHO the government is failing in it's primary duty to us, that of protection of the innocent, while at the same time concentrating efforts on increasing revenue through the use of cameras.

Just a thought...

Well you will only get agreement on here. Now tell this to your local councillor when he/she asks for your vote. Ask 'em what they propose to do about it.

If the answer's nothing then don't vote for 'em - choose someone else to vote for...

At the next election don't vote for anyone, as Billy Conolly once said "it only encourages them"

If you would ordinarily not vote. Then please, please I beg of you. Go and vote. Register your pleasure or displeasure with the incumbent Government and or MP. And don't give me that "what's the alternative" - there is an alternative in the simple integrity of the individuals standing.

Personally I'd love it if MPs/politicians in general started to feel more accountable for their actions...

Integrity . . . in politics?

You are having a laugh aren't you!

I'm not voting until there is a box to tick which states I am unhappy with all the above choices and would like to register my vote as a 'no vote'!
