S1 Elise Tyre Recommendation needed!!
Discussion
Hi Everyone,
I have a standard S1 Elise. Can anyone recommend a good tyre? Generally I want something that handles well on the road and I guess its a given in the UK that it must be good in the wet!!
Any assistance would be most appreciated, even if its to let me know which ones NOT to buy! Also, if your able to let me know the advantages/disadvantages if there are any that would be really helpful!
Thanks

For general road use only and good wet weather performance the Toyo T1R is a good tyre and reasonably priced. www.camskill.co.uk is a great place to buy from.
If you want the best then the majority will point you at Advan Neova's.. But they're big money.
If you're planning to go on a track then the Toyo's aren't the best.
For me, when my Toyo's have had it, I will go back to a Yoko Advan Sport which I really rate for road and track use...

General consensus on Seloc seems to be that Kumho KU31 are better and cheaper than Toyo T1's. If you're thinking of tracking the car, this is especially true. I paid £190 for my set fully fitted and I'm very impressed so far. The car was on BFG's before and I'd say the Kumho's are possibly better which is high praise indeed. Camskill and Blackcircles should be able to help or try a local fitter.

Would agree with that. The Toyo's are OK but take an age to bed in and if you're running Konis still the front end will feel like you've introduced some rubber bands into the steering. Its all relative of, course and you get used to the slightly slower turn in pretty quickly. On the up side Toyos cope with the awful wet, greasy roads we get in Devon very well. The're not keen on dry track use though. If you want the best then the majority will point you at Advan Neova's.. But they're big money.

Toyo have a new tyre coming out, the R1-R which looks very interesting. I don't think they will be available till late in the year though.
If the Kuhmos are as good or even better than the late, lamented BFGs then they will work very well on the Elise.

Not talking from direct personal experience but Yokohama Advan Neova are meant to be a very good wet and dry weather tyre. Guessing approx. £600 for a set.
Off topic - you're not the James Parker I know are you?!
best tyres, but not that much. they are about £450 a set.Off topic - you're not the James Parker I know are you?!

Many thanks for the replies. There seem to be a good few tyres out there!
Regarding the Yokohama Advan Neova. Ive had a look at the B&C website ( http://www.bell-colvill.co.uk/LotusShop/Directory.... )and the full set seems to come to £376.16 (£441.99 with VAT)
But they seem wider than the standard P-zero front 185/55 R15 (Yokohama Advan LTS - Front - 195/50/15) or rear 205/50 R16 (Yokohama Advan LTS - LH - 225/45/16)
It say it's for the S1 but does that cause any issues with fitting?
The 195/225 combination is an accepted modification from the standard 185/225 combo that the Elise originally ran with. 195/225 is definitely as big as you can go on the standard rims and arguably the 195 front is slightly TOO large for the 5.5" front wheel but it's accepted that while it's sub-optimal, it still gives a much better turn-in than you'd get with any available 185 section tyre.
Personally if you want thebest road tyre, the Advan Neova LTS is where it's at.... if you want to save a few pounds, go the Toyo route as they're still a good all-round tyre.

I ditched the P Zeros on my 135 at 9000 miles and fitted the Dunlop SP9000s then. I sold the car at 21000 miles and they were only half worn.
I had also done six track days on the tyres. Great thing about the Elise is that the low weight and optimal weight distribution/transfer isn't too hard on tyres.

You need to drive it faster then.....I had also done six track days on the tyres. Great thing about the Elise is that the low weight and optimal weight distribution/transfer isn't too hard on tyres.

I get about 10 - 12k miles out of a set of rears with minimal track use... I recon I knock about 1k miles off them on a track day...
I have had Yoko Advan Sport, Yoko A539 and Toyo T1R's and rate the Advan Sport... I haven't ever had the Advan Neova or any 'track day' tyre - yet.
