Come on, not again, we ALL know it won't take off, so why argue about it.

I still can't believe there was any debate about this one.
As soon as i thought about it, i knew it would fly.

If it was a car with wings attached, no, it wouldn't take off.

However since it's powered by jets/propellors, the only thing they push against are the air. The conveyor belt could be running at Mach 200 in the wrong direction and it would still take off. The only thing the wheels do on a plane is to stop the fuselage scraping on the ground.

Imagine if the plane had skis instead of wheels. Much easier to visualise that way.

Come on, come on, we don't need to muddy the waters with facts and logic.

I won't mention that aerofoil design of the wings that are specifically designed to get the most out of the Bernoulli Effect and provide lift.

the experiment is hardly accurate thoush is it?

if you had a jet plane on a belt the belt itself was able to match the planes forward speed thus meaning the plane was effectively not moving it would never take off

Yes, yes, yes, all well and good, but let's move the debate along a bit - what about a boomerang thrown from a conveyor belt in orbit in a vacuum ?
