I'm looking at a Hoist, leveller and stand deal on ebay at the mo.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-2TON-ENGINE-CRANE-LIFT-E...

My question is, is the engine stand part of this deal ok/compatible with the AJP on my 4.5?

Many thanks
Cad

Hi

I had a similar crane deal, I have found the crane has not got a lot of reach. Had great difficulty getting the engine out of one of my "Wedges" because of that! A Cerbie will proberly be the same!
The crane is good value but the reach is a problem.

Thought about an engine stand but couldn't bring myself to attach the engine to those four bolts at one end and then let it take the weight of the engine.

I have an engine stand, similar design. Your right as ever julian, it does look a bit precarious with the engine mounted by the four bolts!

you should try leaving the fixing pin out of the stand, now that was worrying!

Or try taking it out when the engine is on the stand thinking it is an adjustment pin!!!! Your correct... Very worrying!!

Cad, you need to be very careful with engine crane jib length. I've got a 2 ton Sealey one and bought it because it offered the longest jib length of all canes within the sub £200 price bracket - even that only just worked. Because the Cerb's bonnet is so long and the engine is mounted rear you need a long jib length. The balance bar is very useful though.

Well I'd already bought it at around 12, so its a bit academic now.

Just have to cross my fingers I guess. The stand also says it supports 340 kg. If it snaps, I'll sue. As the Cerb v8 only weighs 110kg.

The engine stands are rubbish. I tried to work on a 2.0 pinto engine once and they are so hard to get the engine balenced in them that anytime you think "I'll just turn that over" it tries to go it's own way.

I sacrificed a cheap workmate I picked up instead.

The trouble with the hoists are that you get 2 tonne when it's at it's shortes, but very little when fully extended.

I bought a long reach one from Machine Mart when working on my previous cars, then sold it when I'd finished as it worked out cheaper than renting.

I think you'll be alright with the stand, as long as you use good bolts to fix it on, although getting it out in the first place could be a mission...good luck!
