Just thought that i would write this little piece to straighten a few things out.

First and foremost iam a Traffic Cop and thats what im paid to do.
Sometimes we all, in the course of our jobs, have to do things that we dont necessarily agree with. If you dont like it then the answer is simple, go find another job.

I,like Madcop, Gemini, Mike and Tivster enjoy what we do and thats what keeps us doing what we do best.

Everyone knows my feelings about Talivans and Gatsos.About 10% are useful and the rest ,well....need i go on.

However, stopping, prosecuting and advising Motorists of all types on a day to day basis is what i enjoy doing, and at times its a bonus to get paid as well. (Did i say that?).

I will be honest here and say that its very rare that i dont prosecute a person that has fallen foul of the law in front of me, that sadly is the nature of the beast as im sure that you will all agree.
We all, however, have standards....most of which are about the same for all Policemen (but theres always the exception to the rule), and i find that if you treat people with respect and dignity then people accept what you doing and how you punish them.

Ive had it said many times "what did you say to them"?
This refers to the person that ive just stopped for speeding and after a bit of dialogue they end up thanking me or shaking my hand...sometimes it is hard to take in because ive just given them 3 points or taken their car off the road and they are still thanking me.
Just goes to show that i must be doing something right.

When i see older cars being driven around by 17year olds that are students, it makes me smile because i was once in that same position, trying to keep my sporty car on the road on a shoestring, and dare i say it, sometimes breaking the law whilst driving. Im sure that we have all been there at some stage.
When dealing with these senarios i stand back and think, "whats the best way to deal with this"? and it works!

Mind you, there are a lot of idiots driving around and again, its the habitual Drink drivers, Disqual drivers and not forgetting Car thieves that are my bread and butter.....not speeders as the government would like us to think.

I think that most of you will know all of this about me without me explaining and i respect your points of view as im sure that you now respect mine.

You keep going along as you are,(this also applies to all the other BIB)i have no problem what so ever in what you do or how you do it.
I understand alot of the frustrations you must experience in the job are not things that you or i as individuals can alter so we all, from both sides of the line, must live with the system we have.

P.S answer = good cop like the vast majority of the rest)

I have enjoyed the professional attention of the Boys in Blue (and white, fluorescent green etc) on a couple of occassions, primarily in my formative driving years when I knew I was both the best driver on the planet and also completely indestructable. Fortunately for all concerned my attitude has changed somewhat since then. On each occassion however I experienced nothing but civil, friendly conversation, with solid advice and recommendations concerning my use of excessive speed etc. (All were on motorways in what I felt to be safe conditions) These guys clearly enjoyed their work, and advising prats like me to slow down was part of that, which I'd accept with good grace. The point I guess is that none of them took it any further - they used their judgement, presumably of my reaction to being stopped and subsequent conversation. Or maybe I've just been very fortunate. In my view it's just a shame there aren't more around.

BTW- don't get me wrong - I enjoy a good blast on the deserted twisty stuff as much as anyone, providing conditions permit. Even if it is a Volvo (did I just admit to that ?)

Tonyrec - I really appreciate your postings, and I'm sure all others agree. Same goes for the other BiB here.

Definitely good cop (seen you driving round my area a couple of times in your Chimeara, so I guess you might live and work close by!).

(but not when driving)

You have a job to do, so doing it well is a good thing. And a very good thing if it really does save lives.

If you use the magic of discretion, then even better. Just don't look too hard when you hear sporty zorst notes, eh?
