Wheeler Dealers did a Rangey V8 which failed on high emissions and Ed replaced the MAF with one from a scrappy and that fixed their car.

How does it run otherwise?

if the maf is buggered it would be idling very badly indeed and smell of petrol

It runs really well, its not at a tvr garage, is there anything they can check, or is it a visit to TVR

SOmething must be pretty amiss somewhere - suggest you find a local TVR indy with a good reputation.

It's probably the cheapest way to fix it as they should only charge for the broken part and not start wholesale changing parts in an effort to find the problem .. then charge you for the whole lot !

If I'm right doesn't a TVR fail the first test that the MOT machines do, but then pass on the second one or something?

Probably due to the fact the cat isnt hot enough to be working correctly, second test would have greater heat built up so would then pass

make sure you give the car a good run and bring it up to normal running temperature and most importantly CLEAN THE STEPPER MOTOR just before the mot test.
hope this helps.................

There are also other tricks like change the oil & filter before the test. Also turn the c/o trim down .. but if you have a couple of duff ignition leads for example then it's a fault that no bodging will fix.

Make sure they are applying the correct emissions test for your car/year. There are at least two different tests that I have seen carried out.

This is true, cars registred before Aug '95 only need pass the pre-cat testsmile. Are the emissions just out at idle?If so,have they tried adjusting the airflow meter?
