Hi all, just wondering today the whereabouts of the infamous/famous 996 GT2 featured in many of the big rallys and usually the most talked about vehicle in each rally. Its got quite a history, would be a nice car to have- talking point anyway! hopefully its not lanquishing in a police/government compound nowadays?
Thanks
Thanks
Hi,
The car is going strong, I use it for an everyday car and have put 40k on it since buying it from henry. To date I have replaced the Turbo's, put KW dampers, gearbox rebuild, new disks and Milltek exhaust, now its running at just over 540Bhp, 560ftLb. Ray at West Tuning has been looking after the car.
The gearbox was done under warranty, so cannot really complain as it driven pretty hard every day.
May decide to dress the old girl up in the same stickers as LonMan for the trip , anyone know where to get this done??
Cheers
Chris

Good to hear the Gumball GT2 is still doing well and being used as Porsche intended.
Has she done as many miles as this car: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/489955.htm 67k miles must surely be one of the leggiest examples out there?

Hee hee, The passenger in the last pic, is called Aldo. He done most of the work on my Esprit V8 GT.
I believe he had something to do with the setup of the vehicle for that Gumball?
I'll have to give him a call later. He'll love to see the car is still going strong.
Congrats on the purchase Doctor. That's a car to be proud of.

Just shows how great these cars are. That car like a lot of Porsche’s has been driven very hard, worse then most in fact. And it’s still going strong. If that was a Lambo or a Ferrari it would have had to have been rebuilt 6 times by now!! lol
Anyway it was following Rob in my 996 C4 on 2003 Gumball that made me really really want a Porsche GT2. We were both on the highway stuck behind a cop in Florida. As soon as the cop pulled off the highway we both gunned it. I looked down at my Speedo and as I hit 150mph I looked up and Rob was about 2 miles up the road! My god that guy can drive. So many great stories.
After that I knew I needed a faster car. When I did Gumball in 04 in my brand new GT2 (300mile on the clock!), the only two entrants out of 200 cars to pass me in Morocco on the long long long very straight motorway section was Rob in his modified GT2 and the yellow Ferrari Enzo. Still I'm happy with my result on beating everyone to Tangier. I got a first place. That was a good day. I’ll never sell my 996 GT2. Hopefully I’ll just add to the collection!

Sounds like it. Boy I'll bet nobody else in the world could have put 2 miles of straight highway between his GT2 and your carrera like that guy...
