Hi Chaps,

I have had the radiator re-cored and is waiting to go back in, but I need two rubber bits:

One is the rubber bung/plug that goes with the temp switch on the side of the rad.

The other is the rubber washer that goes with the bleed screw on top of the rad.

Any idea where I can get these rubbers or from what vehicle came the rad.

Mine is an 1987 Series 2 350i.

Thanks in advance o' wise ones.

Simon.

Simon FWIW I heard that the rad may be a mofified version of an LDV 3.5t but I`ve no idea where you can get bungs but Leighs idea seems feasible.
Good luck with it anyway.
PS Sample shirt will be with me next week so prepare to go live!

Just weld the hole up, you can't reach it properly anyway. Put the Otter switch in the swan neck.

^^

Or revotech. I found the otter a right pain when the clip slipped. Then the switch fell out. So I fished around the side for the rubber and saw it was still in the hole. AH! GOTCHA! nope, keplonk, nudged the thing and it dropped in the side tank so had to get the rad out to get the rubber to put back in the hole for the switch for the slipped clip. Then thought thare has to be a better way so bought the in line and had the hole sealed up.

Update.

Cannot find a washer for the bleed screw? But its just a flat washer so I can always cut one out of something?

I did find a new rubber boss/bung/plug/sleeve thingy for the temp sender. Promise not to tell any one but it came from a Rover 200! Ouch!

When I had the radiator re-cored I went for the upgraded option (typical wedger). Its much thicker than the origional so hopefully better cooling. Though it was never a big problem before it can't do any harm.

I am also flushing out the water system and having a new thermostat. Anything else anyone cares to suggest I do while I'm at it?

Wee man.
So hopefully I will soon be able to enjoy some of this weather.

Heater bleed valve if its an issue? Around £2.50 for the bits. Sits in the highest point of the system as it passes through the bulkhead. Not sur is its an issue with all cars.
