AJP8 Engine Dimensions
Discussion
Hi there all... ex. Cerb owner here.
I'm thinking about dropping an AJP into my sprint car and was wondering if anyone has the dimensions of the AJP8 engine?
I need overall height, depth and most importantly distance between cylinder heads (also would be worth knowing how much extra I would need to add on for exhaust clearance)
If anyone could help that would be great.
Regards,
Cereal

I've got a 4.2 ajp sat on the floor of my dad's workshop, I'll be round there later so I will find the dimensions you want. I'm in the process of selling it complete with the manifolds, airboxs, gearbox, clutch, ancills, ecu. Basically complete assembly.
hmmm. interesting. If you could do a quick measure up that would be great.
Just been to my dad's and measured the engine.
The exhaust manifolds o/s 90mm, n/s 95mm from cylinder head allowing 2-3mm
Across the cylinder heads 510mm, inc water hoses 585mm
Engine height from sump to top of inlet manifold 640mm
Length from crank pulley bolt to bellhousing flange 610mm
Distance from centre line of crank to oil/water/ p.steering pump drive cover 240mm
Hope this helps, get in touch if you need anymore info.

The AJP8 never ceases to amaze me
Here it is minus cam covers and timing cover (and raised a bit in the engine bay)

In comparison here is a 5L V8 from a 928, everything you can see is the engine

After five years of faffing around with the Cerb engine, I've had to spend some time working on the neglected 928. The experience has left me in awe of the AJP8.
It is so compact, so light (121kg vs 264kg), so powerful (420 vs 320) that I am completely dumbfounded.
Sure, the 928 has 230k miles on it, and the idea that an AJP8 will ever exceed 100k without a full rebuild is quite frankly laughable, but that's not quite the point - it is a work of beauty!

Completely agree! Here's a pic of my old 944 S2 (3 Litre) engine. This was allegedly 1/2 of the 928's V8 approx 5 litres and 211bhp and just over 200 torques. Looking at the pics, very similar cam covers and on mine the slant of the '4' looking pretty close to the angle of the 'V' on yours, distributor in similar place etc too. Dunno what the S2 donkey weighs, but I bet the AJP wins again! Here it is minus cam covers and timing cover (and raised a bit in the engine bay)

Biggest issue for me with the S2, was it was a very effective tool, but not inspiring in noise even with a custom exhaust and remap.
