Battery help??
Discussion
Ive installed a leisure battery in my Landrover G4 with a link charger from the main battery via a switch to the leisure.
The leisure battery came fully charged and linked to a 1000w plug socket which worked fine about 3 mths ago - ie drills.
Tried it today and it cuts out, even with a 100w light bulb. Am I right in thinking the battery may be discharged?
and if so how do I test it to confirm its discharged (apart from plugging in things if there is a way) ?
I dont understand why the link charger has not topped up the leisure battery. Any views. I do mainly short journeys but the link should charge up the leisure battery. (as it would the main car battery) Im using a thinner wire from the switch to the leisure battery - perhaps this should be the full heavy duty battery wire - although the instructions indicated it would be ok.

What is the link? A battery monitoring system, a voltage sensing relay, a simple relay or a piece of wire?
Most smart systems charge the starter battery first only closing the link when the first battery has hit 13.6v (ish).
Try isolating the leisure battery and charing it from the mains. I don't think it is charging properly.

its a one way link/switch box (bought for the purpose) from the main battery to switch to the leisure battery. It indicates that its linked correctly and will allow flow in one direction so not to discharge the main battery.
Ive just got a charger from halfords and it does indicated that the batter has discharged. I think that the short journeys I do is fine for charging the main battery but perhaps not enough for the leisure. I dont do long journeys at the moment and its been sitting there for some time over winter with a low use off it for 4 mths.
Im off for a tour around Scotland in a month so can give it a good run out - in any event a fully charged battery will run for a week what I need - sat nav charger/phone/ small microwave/pc charger.
Thanks for the help. Its good to think out aloud.
