I've viewed the for sale ads on and off and am always amazed how low milage so many wedges are.

I bought mine at 72k miles... my speedo broke a few months later, and it read 82,000 miles. I'd guestimate
I've put on another 5k since, IOW, I alone, the 8th owner have put on more miles by myself than any other
of the 7 previous owners likely did themselves... and I did it in under a year.

What's the problem there... price of gas? size of island? rofl

Hi Mike,

Gas local to me is £1.10 per litre which equate to approximately $13.75 per US gallon. Some parts of the UK are paying £1.20 per Litre $15 gallon. So fuel price is having a bigger and bigger impact on milage I'm sure.

Personally I have put around 8000 miles on mine in three and a half years.

OT. Sorry to hear of your problems. You shouldd ship it over here to get it fixed or try to PX for a new one over here. There are LOTS for sale. Including a certain 450 which is the mutts nuts!

Simon.

I usually manage 5K miles a year ... will be a few less this year as the car is being upgraded and won't be on the road for the entire summer.

I've done about 70k in my first one, 40k in my second, and 15k in my third, totaling about 125k miles.

Do I win?

I sold my Tasmin with 425,000 km on it, and my 350i FHC currently has about 320,000 - the two cars had about 70,000 and 80,000 when I bought them, so I have run near 600,000 km (375,000 miles?).

Many more miles to go

Interesting to know what parts needed replacing (other than consumables) and at what mileage, so as to throw some light on the relative reliability of 'regular use' vehicles versus 'only used on dry days every other weekend' ones.

Have you considered a private plane by the way ? hehe

I have sadly neglected the 400 since getting the bike.
Need to pull my finger out and get it MOT'd.

Don't know the miles as it is an original Dutch wedge (and not 'picked up' in the UK by the Dutch). Bought with 150.000km (Dec 2001) and used throughout the year, now at 175.000 and the rear brakes let me down a month ago to get back to full regular use ....
Looking back it seems I do most of my wedge driving in winters!
Will never advertise, but in case 'only winter use' could be attracting the right buyer ;-) or not?

I would need to go over lots of old emails, bills etc. to get anything accurate but here are some general issues that I have had, with my recollections....

Tasmin 2.8
- Multiple water pumps, probably 5 in total.
- Starter motor around 150,000 km
- Valve job once, I recall having about 200,000 km at the time
- Viscous fan clutch failed early, maybe around 100,000 km, replaced fan with electric
- Transmission, dramatic failure during highway speed driving - not during a shift - new (used) box installed at about 300,000 km
- Power window switch failed
- Steering rack inner tie rod ends once
- Outer tie rod ends twice
- Lower ball joints once
- Rear wheel bearings once, one side bad, other just because.
- Rear swing arm bushings about 3 times
- Half shaft u-joints, outer, two or three times
- Half shaft u-joints, inner, once
- Speedo gear drive once, near 400,000 km
- Front brake, one caliper siezed.
- Fuel pump failed twice.
- Clutch slave (concentric type) failed twice, on second failure around 350,000 km converted to external type).
- Clutch disk once
- multiple electrical problems, mainly headlight relays, but pretty much the entire fuse/relay panel fell apart in the end (mine was an old all black wiring, with the fuse/relay panel in the engine compartment).
- Tyres, at least 32 in total if I recall correctly
- One accident; rear ended by a Nissan path finder - I was stopped, she was doing 80 km/hr or more - repair was about 5000 GBP, me, just a stiff neck.

350i FHC
- Two water pumps
- Alternator
- Cam shaft/lifters at about 125,000 km (failed quickly after way over-revving when throttle stuck in autocross)
- Valve job and big end bearings done at same time as cam just because
- Fuel injection wiring, couple of times, main issue was relay pack intermittent connection, and a couple of wire breaks in the harness by certain injectors.
- ECU failed twice (once when in transmission shop - hmmm); in the end I took the original unit, re-soldered, and all has been well.
- Fuel pump failed at about 250,000 km.
- Tie rod ends, outer, twice.
- All four wheel bearings once.
- Outer half shaft u-joints "a few times", inners twice.
- One front caliper siezed replaced pair and disks at same time.
- Window lift switch
- Heater switch
- Power mirror motors siezed
- Transmission over and over and over and over... Was noisy, so had a low mile one put in to reduce the noise, the new transmission's 5th gear got nice and hard to engage; had it rebuilt, from that point on it would last days or weeks before (warranty) rebuild required. Finaly gave up and bought a TR7 unit and never an issue since.
- Clutch disk once
- Rear swing arm bushes four times; replaced around with bronze bushing around 200,000 and never an issue since.
- Two accidents,
-> one with tractor trailer, I was stopped, he was in next lane, drove in to my lane, his wheel nut dug in to my front wing, and lifted the front of the car off the ground. Wrecked wheel, bent rack, body damage, about 3000 GBP repair.
-> second last November, again, a tractor trailer, but at highway speed. Repairs and upgrades (new leather and carpets/wheel polish etc...) about 10,000 GBP. Should have the car back in a "few days".

Note, it seems a long list, but in fact considering that I drive them hard, autocrossed the 350i for a few years, and drive them all year, including the Canadian winters, it's not so bad. Hope this helps someone - but I suspect all it's done is depressed me as I think of all the money I spent!

yikes

Fascinating stuff, and you've probably frightened the life out of any Wedgers with shallow pockets. hehe

Seriously though, thanks for putting that together. I'm sure a lot of us will find something of real interest there.

Do you use Kms in Canada ? scratchchin

MILES here of course.

Just took mine down to RT Racing in Sheffield this morning for investigation of slipping clutch, and oil/filter change....oh, and a new speedo cable, since THAT decided to stop working on the way down. irked

All the best..Graham.
