no.2 for the 944
For sub-£2k? Unless you find a real bargain it would probably need work. The less popular 924 is entirely realistic at that price though. Even the 924S (which basically is the 944 mechanicals in a lighter, slipperier shell).Other ideas - Beetle, maybe? Chevette (depends on your definition of classic I suppose!) I'd say the Crapi was quite a good bet, although the better examples of those are starting to get quite expensive I believe.
edit: can you get a Starion for that sort of price? Oversteer-tastic.

Alfa 75 TSpark.
You'd get a very clean example for your money and mechanically they're absolutely bomb-proof.
Do you have any problems getting parts for yours? I was given a 3.0l V6 Cloverleaf a few years back that needed a clutch, could'nt get one from most places, best I could do at the time was about £500 odd. You'd get a very clean example for your money and mechanically they're absolutely bomb-proof.
Still got those alloys and wing if you want them Steve.

Mark 1 or 2 Golf GTI.
Porsche 944.
I would personally go for a nice mk2 golf GTI.
Hmmm Golf GTI Porsche 944.

I've probably had 4 or 5 over the last 10 years, all mint, all standard... and run them into the ground as daily driving hacks....

Shame on me...
