For the first time in almost 13 years since I past my driving test I'm without a car. I'm increasingly fed up of paying through the nose because I dare to want to own a car.

The current taxation costs imposed by the government are a joke, and increasingly, I struggle to remember returning from a drive that I've actually enjoyed.

So yesterday, a nice man came to buy my car, and I toddled along to my local bike dealer to pick up my new Yamaha R6, in competition white. Once again, I've discovered the personnal freedom that I feel has been missing for the last decade.

I still have a van for work use, and my GF's car for rainy days, but while we have no kids at least, its two wheels only from now on.

That is of course, until the government realise that although people are choosing a more efficient, congestion easing, environmentally sound vehicle, they should load it with tax/make illegal.

Passed my riding test in August last year, glad to be part of a more civilised, friendly club.

Made the same move near 2 years ago now. I love driving, sitting in a queue of traffic for 100% of the time for 98% of my journeys was soul destroying; paying through the nose for the privilidge really made me sit back and ask questions.

So it's no great money saver: I've halved my fuel consumption but petrol costs have increased and I have increased servicing costs (mostly tyres). But my commute times are far more consistent than in four wheels and significantly reduced too. Oh, and I get to smile on my journeys! smile

I dropped the car last year as it was making no sense whatsoever living in that Lunnon. Its a minor pain in the arse getting a suitcase to wherever I'm working, but they're mostly used to my clunking into the office in Brum in leathers now smile

Cant see me going back to both for a while - a weekend rental in a Mundano or something is ridiculously cheap - significantly less than the insurance was on the 944, so its win win all round really.

I'm putting the car on SORN at the end of the month, seeing how I get one until after my Africa trip. Its getting stupidly expensive, need to save some pennies smile
