I've been looking for a car for a while now that checks the boxes for me. Basically, I want something that I can commute with from time to time, but that I can also do the odd trackday in. I have a knackered left leg so cars with heavy clutches cause me an issue if I'm stuck in traffic. The only 'auto' that I've ever found that hits the spot was the BMW M3 CSL. Today I discovered the Evo 10 SSTwink

I've never really considered the Evo as a viable option. Is this new 300 bhp SST as good as the salesman says it is? It's starting to look like a serious option for my next car smile

If anyone on here owns one I'd welcome your comments on every aspect of the car... ownership, performance, handling, reliability, etc.

Cheers,
NL

Read this months 'EVO' magazine for their impressions of the car against the Impreza STI - not good..! Although can't think of anything else short of a new GT-R with a similar type gearbox (bar VAG products).

I drove the x sst and found its flappy paddle shift wanting.

three times setting off from the lights when i pulled the paddle it went from 1st to 4th, salesman said i was holding the paddle too long? was less than a tap! I think it wasmalfunctioning, but i am not a fan of flappy paddles anyway, except all the dealers have got them instead of manuals! the blip on the downshift was quite nice, and as paddle shifts go the changes were as good as any when it worked though.

The other thing to be aware of with the SST gearbox is that you can only get it on a 300 bhp model, and if you tune it above that, you'll probably void the warranty, especially for the gearbox.

You might not think this would be an issue, but anything that increases your power risks your warranty, and as the exhaust leaves a lot to be desired in terms of sound and loudness (it's almost silent), then you may be left wanting.

Had the MLR chaps in on Friday with one and an FQ360, chap said the SST felt slow... 360 was good though.
