Project S1 on ebay

The more I look at this, the more I wonder how many people are thinking "I wouldn't mind the ... off that but what would I do with the rest of it?" I would think potentially a few people would maybe want 1 spare alloy to polish up without having to take the car of the road, there's a chassis for renovation before the body off allowing a much quicker downtime front and rear suspension, diff, dash, seats?? ( high prices mentioned recently) Clocks, Bonnet etc etc.
So if there is anyone local to it, who is interested in buying it to break up I will pledge £200 now for the body tub with doors and I would collect within 2 weeks. If we keep it sensible and people pledged a fair price, a lot of us could end up with what we want at a good price and the seller could obtain a fair (possibly very good) price for the vehicle, I would suggest we agree to no Gazumping?? at the outset to keep it simple.
Also if the offers pledged were to go higher than the purchase price we could simply reduce everyones costs by the same percentage, obviously taking into account the buyers costs to collect the vehicle.
If I had somewhere to put this I would offer to buy it and organise this myself , but I simply haven’t got any room left.
I would imagine there are a few people thinking why break it and lose another off the road, but why not if it keeps 5 others on the road.
Any thoughts, any takers?? anyone want to stone me to death for suggesting it?

Its probably the most do-able one thats been on ebay yet - provided you can do alot of the work yourself.
If you're pretty practical then I think you may be able to do it but it will probably end up costing what you could buy a complete one for.
If you're happy that its not all about economics then go for it.
The chassis on that S1 doesn't look too bad from the photos.
Make sure you budget for having to transport it aswell.

Thanks Chris I see you have been through most of this recently from your previous posts
I planned on getting most done myself. Apparently the chassis is solid so I figure if I can put it back together and get the thing running and past the MOT I can then clean up the bodywork and chassis after (will do the full chassis prep/paint/waxoil but need a bit more space for that than I have in my garage).
The guy has a trailer and is only 20 miles away so transport is doable for me
I've always wanted a TVR since I can remember so it'll be a fun project (I hope).
Cheers,
Nigel

I would seriously recommend that you clean up the chassis before you put the body on - you can't access some of it once the body is on (and that includes the bits that seriously dissolve) - it is so much easier with the body off.
I still have my car in bits - I have yet to put it back together!

If you guys are thinking of stripping it, I'm starting to think I might be mad to try ?
Quite the opposite Nigel, If you look at it from the point of view that I beleive that most of the parts are in fact worth having, I think it would be a great buy for you if could get it at the right price and do most of the work yourself, however I think you should be carefull not to underestimate the task, or the potential costs.Hi guys,
Went to look at the car lastnight and decided it was a bit too far gone for me.
Bodywork needed a lot more attention than I thought and it went for over £1200 in the end.
I think I need to set my sights a little lower and just buy something that needs a bit of tidying maybe
Did anyone on here buy it ?
Thanks,
Nigel

This needs some engine work, but I know he's spent a fair bit on it. Body looks good.

This was his post about the problems with the car.

You can pickup an engine on ebay for not a great deal of cash - you need a 2.8 Capri / Sierra / Granada engine for an S1. Laters models are 2.9 litre. If you're on a tight budget stick with the 2.8 - upgrading to the 2.9 is a lot of work and will cost - different exhaust and injection system for starters.
Another one-
This has been in the classified for ages, so if it looks worth it may be worth an offer (you decide on the colour!).
Its a very early one as the speedo and rev counter are not 'upside down' like on later models.

Thanks for the heads up on those
I emailed the guy about the purple one and it has sold which is a shame as that looked about right for what I wanted to do/pay. Not sure about the yellow one though. Think I'll hang on until I've sold my car first and then maybe try and pick one up in the winter.
Cheers,
Nigel
