Gaz shocks adjustment and ride height
Discussion
Hi guys, wondered if you could assist me, i just bought a 500, my 1st tvr, and yes im in love already, early in the relationship i know. It has gaz shocks fitted, but i have no technical info about them as to how to adjust ride height or damping, and the i think the car sits too low, and ride is a little hard.. for me anyway. I was reading another thread on here about gaz shocks but there isnt a mention of how high from the ground the chassis would have been originally, does anybody know? I measured mine from the front and its about 105mm.. exhaust is scraping a fair bit! I would take a wheel off and have a look today but my trolley jack wont get under, will go buy a lower jack tomorrow, but in the meantime some info on how to adjust both settings would be much appreciated.
Hallo mate
As a starting point I would measure from the corners of the outriggers to the ground and try for 150mm on the front and 160mm on the rear. You will need to jack up the car and wind up the spring platforms.
I'm in work today so probably easier to give me a bell on 01480 403700 for full info.

Ride height is adjusted by winding the rings at the bottom of the coil springs up and down the thread on the shock body. You need a pair of C spanners to do this. To check the ride height put the car on a flat surface and measure the distance from the ground to the bolt plate either end of the outriggers. Most people set them in the region of 150mm front & 160mm rear. You need to maintain at least 10mm higher at the rear. To be honest it isn't sensible to spend too long on ride height, as long as it's near these numbers and even across the axles then it will be OK.
The resident expert, Derek from Ab Shocks recommends starting by adjusting fully hard then turning the adjusters so that the fronts are 30 clicks from hard and the rears wind back 24 clicks from hard. The adjusters are small round knobs at the bottom of the shocks.

Thanks for that, great responsive technical support team! Ive just measured from the outriggers, im 110 F and 120 R.. bit low then, no wonder the exhaust is getting bashed. I dont need the car that low, not heading for any race tracks, just the odd country lane at the moment, so i will take up the offer of a chat over the phone about it and give you a call. Cheers !
