brake fluid level warning light

Checkrd it out and the bulb is duff but how the bd hl do you change the bulb. I have some spare warnibg lights and I cant get the bulb holder out of the fitting to change it. The warning lights are under the curved cover (S2 with sweeping dash) and so that would have to come off to remove from front BUT how is it held in place, worried about breaking it, guidance please

Hi Norman, Remove the trim to the right side of the dash, (it bends and drops away) remove the bulb holder from behind.

How? the warning light is inserted from the front under the curved plate and I cant see how to remove the bulb holder from the complete unit, the little plastic catches seem impossible to shift. I've tried on some spares I have

This reminds me how I spent almost half a day trying to get the warning lights out from behind the dash. According to the bible they can be pulled out from behind, But this turned out absolutely impossible. Mine had to be pushed out to the front of the dash: remove the black banana-shaped cover and the warning lights come out easily. Good luck!

Hi Norman, TVR did not use the integral bulb type as in your picture, they have a separate bulb holder that presses into the back and you replace the bayonet type bulb. Adrian@

I was being lazy here is an actual warning light which I removed from my spare dashboard



You are correct the bulb holder is supposed to be removable from the back but I cant release the holding lugs, shown by the line, even with the light on my workbench let alone up behind the dash. Is there a sectret way to do that? Otherwise the best option I can see is to removed the curved cover strip and remove and replace fron the front

Hi Norman, OK....YOUR dash board is as it left the factory and has removable bulb holders (the coloured glass part THE front assembly is pressed into the dash and the perspex cover is then glued on) these are not like the after-market replacement units that you are now looking at. You will be able to pull the holder out of the tube from behind the dash (as it presses in and has no system of locking it in other than the bulb holder is slightly larger than the tube it is pressed into). I had the same difficulty when I investigated why my Ignition light never came on... look carefully at the panel top right...



It was trailing behind the dash and was actually woking OK, but is now fitted correctly...

Its definatly in the right place I have disconneted the wires and tested also connected to a spare light when it works fine. The problem is the little lugs indicated by the line in the photo which hold the bulb holder into the light it self, cant even press them in on the bench to get the bulb holder out

Have you tried squeezing the holder at a position 90 degrees to the tabs, like "safety" bottle tops to deform it to an oval shape...? I dont think those tabs actually compress, which is why you cannot remove the holder. I think you will need to deform the holder so that the tabs no longer locate on the holder and just slide it out...

NOW you have surprised me....I thought that the wood dashes have the earlier type of bulb holder .... which had a pull out bulb holder, (late ones are defined by the centre shielding between the connectors).

Got one apart needed two piars of pliers and brute force, I dont think its possible behind the 'wooden (actually painted fibreglass) dash' it will have to be removing the plactic curved strip and replace from the front I think. Good job I have spares

My walnut S2 dash has the same lights as in Normans photos. Maybe someone replaced them at a later date? It's impossible to remove the bulbs with the dash in place, but it would be possible if you have better access. I understand that you want to remove the dashboard anyway, in that case you could leave them in place for now, just remove the three connectors for the dash wiring loom, and take the dash out complete with instruments and warning lights. Alternatively, what I did was push the warning lights carefully forward to unstick the cover. The cover was stuck on with 17-years old double sided tape, which didn't take too much force to unstick.

18 year old sticky tape is still strong - but careful use of a screwdriver as a lever started the strip loose and I have changed the complete light - now works prefectly thanks for all the help

Hi Norman, I know it will cost but....When the dash is changed change the lamp style to the version that has it's own bulb holder so that you never have to do that again and bulb can be changed from behind....(I am sure that Ebay will be a source for them at pennies) Adrian@
PS don't bid on the job lot that I am bidding on as they are minus the bulb holders!
