PICNIC IN THE PARK
SUNDAY 18TH MAY 2008
As I hope you all remember this months meeting is going to be something different from normal.
I have arranged a visit to Wrest Park and Gardens, Silsoe Beds. They are expecting us to arrive in convoy and have specified the route we must take into the park and have required me to do a risk assessment and visit plan for the day.
Meet at Baldock Services at junction 10 A1 (M) and A507 for around 9.00. The convoy leader will issue out a simple set of directions to each car and the convoy should leave about 9.30 for the 20 minute run to the park. Anyone not joining the convoy will need to ensure they approach the village from the South via Barton Road and after going a bit gentle through the village should time their arrival for about 9.45 /10.00.
Once we are all there I will take the reg number of each car and £12.50 in cash (no cheques, American Express, Visa ,Polish zloty or euro) and then pay for everyone. Anyone arriving after this will have to pay the normal entry fee if they want to go into the house and gardens.
If you want to stay in the car park you are of course free to do so and there is no charge.
As far as the picnic goes, it is totally a self-catering affair, in short bring your own. There are catering facilities within the House and Garden but I expect them to be expensive and the idea is that once we have mooched around the place for a bit we all meet up in the car park for scoff, tyre kicking and meaningful conversation as normal.
One of the pre conditions for the booking is that there are Marshal’s on hand for your arrival at the park, so I will be travelling separately to get there before you, this leaves me needing three volunteers. One volunteer is needed to come with me and will organise the parking at the House and this will then allow me to stand like a Numpty in the High Street and direct you all into the park.
The second volunteer is for convoy leader and ideally you should know where you are going but you will need to be at the services before 9.00 to allow me to hand over the instructions etc. The drive is about 15 minutes and is all wide single carriageway. The leader should recognise that the road is always targeted by the mobile speed cameras and should lead accordingly.
I also need someone to be ‘Tail End Charlie’ they will be at the back of the convoy and will have my mobile number to let me know if we have any problems on the way.
Please email me if you can be one of the volunteers and I would also appreciate it if you could let me know if it is your intention to come along so I have some idea of the numbers.
