well i was beaten by a mitsubishi evo 3 today ,could not get away from the thing although it did seem to have a few tuneing mods done to it and mine is only a plain 4.0 i need more oooomph. perhaps it would have gone better with a mark adams rechip.
How fast were you going then? and what sort of road was it on?

Yeah but which car looked/sounded better?
Jap cr@p![]()
Calling the Lancer EVO Jap crap is to entirely miss the reality of it's actual, proven greatness.
To dismiss it on the grounds of ugliness is harsh but possibly fairer although Audi's much venerated Quattro, particularly in fully bespoilered rally battle dress was never much of a looker either: rather - like the EVO - more a triumph of function over form.
Then again, I'm biased because I overcame my prejudice against the easily lampooned EVO VII (albeit briefly) following a simple, single event: I drove one.
Piloting an EVO over just about any imperfect B-road is an abject lesson in the art of one's vocally expressed expletive projection.
The Chimera is gorgeous, makes all the right noises and is ball-bouncingly fast by most standards but most cars will often excel in specific arenas of performance.
The EVOs have invariably been at the leading edge of uber B-road meistery for many a year now so please, a little less blind pronouncement where at least some appreciation of manufacturing savvy might be the more appropriate response...
My apologies derestrictor, you are of course quite correct. The Evo does what it says on the tin. I was just expressing myself through a few vodkas. I still have a problem with a saloon car which has been breathed on. Just can't get my head round it. I still expect to see a spotty oik with a base ball cap driving them - although I know this is largely not the case!

Ricardo - I think I know/knew exactly where you are/were coming from...
I too would rather we lived in a motoring world where traditional (supercar) heirarchies were scrupulously adhered to and there was no place for such plebian upstartism.
One of my first posts on PH detailed the time I was ritually abused whence first Cerbering, by a miniscule-headed 'Coss-eh' gimp and posse: dreadful bunch o' peasantry and zero appreciation for aught but their own appalling take on motorized, urban terrorism.
To which end, it can be difficult to overcome understandable stereotypical owner associations.
(Still, I guess it might be different in a Tam or T350 though...
) Evos might be great at 0-60s and cornering but part of the reason i chose a chimaera is because its _rear wheel drive_. Gimme a wet road any day and i'm in
Besides, even with a sports exhaust Evos sound duff. Now as for an impreza with a sports exhaust... mmm almost as good as a muted V8

reminds me of the Volvos in the BTCC a few years back. Some wag asked 'do they know it's touring cars not towing cars?'
