Boris and Bus Lanes

Eh? You cannot use buslanes in London?
I always thought it was across the country that this was the case, or is London an exception to the ruling?
It depends which bus lane. Some you can use, but most you can't. Others you can use between 10:00am and 4:00pm, whilst others anytime after 9:30am is OK... etcI always thought it was across the country that this was the case, or is London an exception to the ruling?
You really have to be careful and read the sign on each bus lane, then check for CCTV because bus lane are big earner at £40 min. a go.

We are really spoilt here in Bristol then, there is only one I know of which we cannot use although I believe that is just you cannot turn left at the junction, only buses are allowed to.You really have to be careful and read the sign on each bus lane, then check for CCTV because bus lane are big earner at £40 min. a go.
It makes perfect sense to me as there are very few buses actually in them and it gives you an extra "barrier" from cars...although not always the case as I have been cut up a number of times by impatient drivers who think they are for their benefit.
Having voted for the man, I'm awaiting news on when this will be done too.
I have to use at least one lane due to stationary traffic which is 24hours in operation going to and from work each and everyday, camera seem to not change direction from front so are bike friendly.
Obviously if this gets implemented then bikers will need to watch out for dozy drivers turning left across the bus lanes but overall still much safer then having to ride next to a line of traffic.

With BoJo as the new boss, I reckon TfL's camera spotters will be less likely to write tickets for bikes. Only problem comes when the bus lane is in the jurisdiction of the local council, in which case they'll be keener then mustard to book as many as possible before the law changes, especially if they're non-Tory.
Red routes are TfL's and therefore should be okay, I'd wager. Let's hope Boris makes the switch as quick as possible. Only fly in the oil is that Ken said his original bus-lane research, which found a significant drop-off in accident numbers, was flawed and would have to be re-done. Hopefully Boris will take that for the political foot-dragging it probably was and go with the original findings

So how long do you reckon it will be before we can start to use bus lanes in London?
I suspect it'll take a while, if at all. You've clearly never worked for the civil service! It'll take at least a week to get a pass so he can get in the building unescorted. The IT people won't have started building his PC yet, but that won't slow things down as he won't be able to get a logon ID until he's got the security pass sorted out. He won't be able to use the kettle until he's signed the risk assesment, and the official site induction won't get booked until after he's started and the next one's probably full so it'll be a couple of months, by which time he'll know everything they're going to tell him anyway. If they've got a really efficient admin person he will at least have a logbook and a couple of pens, but his phone won't be connected up yet. Someone will have found him a stack of documents three feet high to read his way though but he won't have anywhere to store them as nobody will have thought to allocate any cupboard space yet...
