Just a quick question, we are going on a driving holiday around Europe this summer and have pre-booked 90% of our hotels in advance.

Since the exchange rate is getting worse should i buy some euros now or does anybody think it will get better before July?

Also has anyone used or got a fairFX debit card that you preload with Euro s at todays rate?

Any thoughts really appreciated

If anyone could see into the future, they would buy/sell more than a few hundred euro for beer moneywink

Pretty standard first reply - Thank you - I am not looking for future lottery numbers either just trying to get a well thought out considered response.

But on a serious note this will have a massive affect on large families who want to go on holiday to France etc that aren't your multi millionaires and especially people looking to purchase holiday homes - although a good time to sell!

I am also considering purchasing back our old holiday home that might be comming back on the market soon hence part of the reason for the trip so it is for a little more than beer money!

I would've thought buying in the euro-zone right now was a non starter.

We're off to Spain in a few weeks and I'm resolute to the fact we'll get less than we did last year and the year before.

I think you can only make the best of the situation as it is at the time - who knows what's going to happen by July?

One piece of advice is to open (if you don't already have one) a Nationwide current account with a credit card and use it for all possible payments and withdrawals while you are away.

Reason being that you don't get charged commission on transactions AND you get the commercial exchange rate at the time as opposed to the (even worse) tourist rate.

Best of a bad job in these times. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Neil
