1130hp Mitsubishi Evo

Tuner pushes 2.0-litre to the limit

If you’ve ever wondered how much power a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine can produce before it explodes into a zillion pieces and wipes your testing facility off the face of the planet?

Well, according to this obligatory YouTube clip it is 1130hp and the car's creator has now claimed a world record.

Tuner AMS Performance has tweaked a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII to within an inch of its life, and now it can cover a quarter mile in 8.56 seconds, reaching a top speed of 171mph.

The car does look a little twitchy coming down the drag strip, but then that’s what happens when you put Veyron power in a saloon I guess…

Sort of. I suggest that would probably need a rebuild every time the key is put in the ignition.

For a minute I thought this was a misprint and it was meant to be 130...

Does it cost more in fuel or clutches???

More impressive is the transmission and drivechain that can handle that madness. Repeatedly. Wow.

The 8.56 @ 171 was last years car yikes

I assume that means this will be even more crazy...

Anyone know where this car will be running, I've always fancied seeing some drag racing and that would be pretty funny to watch too.

BMW managed to squeeze 1500bhp out of a production block 1.5 litre turbo engine in 80's so either engine technology hasnt moved on in 1/4 of a centry or the evo has HUGE drive train losseswink

Whats a Mitsubishi Lance? Is it a shortened lancer? And I thought they'd dropped the name years back anyway.

But regardless, that is a truly fantastic piece of work. i somehow don't think with that power it'll be quite so driveable on public roads, but so what?

I think an F1 team may have slightly more of a budget behind them than a tuner tbh...even if it was in the 80s

All that matters is that VID made me smile.

Fair play those men (and women if there were any involved, don't want to be sexist).

Fair play, silly power, lots of noise. Love it x

Santa Pod is a good place to go. You can even run your own car down the strip at the RWYB events.
