My thoughts on getting one of these are in their infancy, but I am tempted.

1) Other than pre-2000 engine problems, are there any real issues with the manual XKRs that I should be aware of?

2) What spec changes were there - was there a facelift at some point which made them look rather more aggressive?

3) When did the 4.2 come in and did it replace the 4.0 or was it an alternative?

4) Can you get a child seat in them or are the back seats too sculpted?

5) If the child seat went in the front, would a 5'10 adult suffer unduly in the back?

6) I have heard they are ballistic in a straight line, but some reports of being a bit dull in the twisties. Is there any truth in that and if so, can you get upgraded suspension to address it? Coming from an S1 Elise 111s, I know it won't be anything like the same, but I want a car that will still be an 'event' when I go in it. I've only 'driven' one on GT4, but if it is anything like that in real life, then I'll sign up now.

Cheers

All XKR's are automatic. Aside nikasill linings in the older cars, their other Achilles heel are the timing chain tensioners. Pre-4.2ltr engined cars need them changed- £1500.

Facelift in 2001, 2003, 2005. Last generation by far the best bit of botox you could get for the car.

3) When did the 4.2 come in and did it replace the 4.0 or was it an alternative?

2003 as a replacement, up from 370BHP in the 4.0ltr to 400BHP in the 4.2ltr

4) Can you get a child seat in them or are the back seats too sculpted?

Yes, but reality says otherwise

5) If the child seat went in the front, would a 5'10 adult suffer unduly in the back?

Without a doubt, it would be awful in the rear.

6) I have heard they are ballistic in a straight line, but some reports of being a bit dull in the twisties.

It's strictly a GT, buy it to go like stink down the m/way and you won't be disappointed
