Hi folks

A year or so ago, I changed my mirrors to chrome bullet mirrors & thought they looked good. I received a number of compliments about them, but they had a couple of floors...

The adjustment wasnt enough so I couldnt see 100% of the right angle
They were a bit small for the car

So I have just fitted a pair of colour coded MX5 mark1 mirrors

If anyone wants to do the same, DONT BUY OLD ONES from flea-bay. The price went up to over £100 for a pair of 10 year old mirrors. I then hunted around on www.mx5parts.co.uk and found two options
1. A pair of unpainted mirrors to paint your own colour for £61.95
2. A pair of non-OEM new mirrors ready painted for £69.95 in mazda colours of blue, silver, red or green (you can respray if not close enough match)

Just in case anyone is looking to do the same, it may help

I will take a new profile picture shortly, but very pleased with the results.

Really? My wing mirrors only have the one floor. They must be a bungalow.

He's just making up storeys...

But he's right - and IIRC, when I looked at those, the unpainted ones are delivered in bits so that you can paint them easily, then assemble them.

They do look nice - there was a car at SCH last year with them (Redcarlady's).

Only if you also add the two VW corrado mirrors that I'm about to sell...

They will definitely fit, incidentally - I didn't use them because my doors have been resprayed at some stage with the old mirrors still on, so there would have been a visible "ridge" around the base of the VW ones.

Do the feet of the MX5 mirrors cover the unpainted area that's left after taking the rabbit's ears off?

I didnt have the rabbit ears on mine, so there was no unpainted area. The originals were electric mirrors from a wedge ! they didnt look right

I don't think there should be an unpainted area - mine looked like it had just had the door re-lacquered at some point, with the mirrors still in place. I was just unluck, I think the VW mirrors I bought would normally fit fine.

Hi,
Just fitted a set of MX5 mirrors to mine this week. The foot of the new unit just about covered the hole that was left by the ball joint section of the bunnies ear type. I used 6mm roofing bolts and nylok nuts, then just a bead of silicone to tidy it all up. Job done.

Which model MX5 did the mirrors come from and any chance of a photo of how they fit?

I haven't got a photo at the moment, I'll try and sort that out today and get back to you. They were from a MK1 MX5. Just line them up, drill two new holes and bolt them on.

OK, have tried to upload photos and links to photos, via photobucket, but I can't get it to work. I wanted to send a pic like the green car above, but I'm not having any luck. Basically knocked out the ball joint. Then I made a template out of lino to get all my spacing, then drilled and bolted it. If I ever get the photo thing to work I'll send one. Cheers

I may have sussed out how to put a photo on. Here's one of the car with the mirrors fitted. I have a close up of the mirror on another pic if this works OK

Here's the lower cover. This clips on to cover the bolt heads. It just covers the hole left by the bunnies ears, silicone sealant sorted out any tiny gaps. It bolts straight on,no fancy brackets or anything.
