Autocar review Ford XR6 and breif comparison to VXR8
Discussion
Interesting comparison between Ford and the VXR8 by Autocar that seem to place the Ford ahead...and in OZ this mchineb is only £22k.
Hideous colour green though....and no V8 of course

Not being a smartarse, but it's not £22K, including "on road costs" it's well over $50K, we unfortunately don't earn pounds hereHideous colour green though....and no V8 of course

Still much cheaper than the HSV GTS which is over $80K on the road... And you're right, there is no V8 in the XR6 you have to get the XR8 for that. It is strange that Vauxhall called the Clubsport "VXR8", when Ford have used the "XR8" name on Falcons for many years.

Still much cheaper than the HSV GTS which is over $80K on the road... You would be suprised that it is under or very close to $50k, if you go to their website. Assuming orc = $4511 would get it over $50k.
The G6ET looks a bit good too....Sort of a Fairmont Ghia with a Turbo. Oh well more acronyms for us.

Thats correct le sarthe, as Motomk has pointed out, the recommended retail price on Ford Australia's website is about $46k, so that converts to about 22k pounds there.
It just looks too much like a VXR8 copy to me. Some of the body shape and styling is similar I think. It's like Jaguar "borrowing" the Aston shape. I drove past one in a car park a few weeks back and thought Ooh, an Aston. Then I did a double take and was immediately like "Ah it's a Jaguar". Still like them though.
You know when you see a Boxter and you think "can't afford a real Porsche!"
I think you'll look at the XR6 on the road and think "can't afford a VXR8!"

For the avoidance of doubt over the price business I was simply stating the price quoted in the article itself.
Even if it is a few grand more that is still a very big bang for your buck by UK standards....
Yeah, but the point I was trying (and failing) to make is that you can't just convert $ to £, unless you come here with £, If you live here earning $ then it hurts a lot more. The other costs are not optional either, so the advertised price is misleading by at least 10-15%.Even if it is a few grand more that is still a very big bang for your buck by UK standards....
I guess my main gripe is always that cars in general are much cheaper in England, and even the Monaro and VXR8, as a % of average income, are cheaper in England than here. Bear in mind that I just paid over £20K for an 04 CV8, and that was a bit of a "bargain"...

Would never happen here, Ford and Holden buyers are generally dyed in the wool, and would never swap brands. Mind you, I bought an XR6 for the (now ex) wife, and a Monaro forme. You know when you see a Boxter and you think "can't afford a real Porsche!"

they called the new monaro a vxr8 as it slotted nicely into the VXR brand
The VXR8 is not the 'new' Monaro!!
you know that
tim_the_pool_man knows that
the British press seem to think otherwise

Isn't it VX8R?? So not only is it not a Monaro, it's not even a VXR...
