Hi,

Does anyone have a set of cats i could borrow for an MOT (4.2). I have bought my own set off a guy on ebay, way over a month ago but the guys not delivering them or currently answering his emails. Hmmm bumped i think!

I live in Forres, up near Inverness. There are next to no Cerb's up this way so the only way i could borrow a set is to have them posted out, i understand that most people will be very reluctant to do this. Any help would be most appreciated and i would obviously compensate for delivery costs etc.

Craig.

What is the size difference between the 4.2 and 4.5 Cats?
I have an aftermarket exhaust but not sure of its diameter. Standard manifold though.

My car is also booked into Dreadnoughts in Callander for its annual service two weeks today so desperatly trying to get it MOT'ed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think the 4.5 ones will fit. Its all dependant on the lenghts 16inch or 17-1/2inch i can make up some brackets to adjust where the exhausts hang. I think there would be enough clearance. I can get someone to measure them tonight as i'm away at work at the minute.

Craig,

I think it's the diameter that differs, mine are 60mm diameter pipes and the pitch across the bracket bolt holes is 83mm.

Hi Rob. I'll get my Dad to measure my decat pipes tonight. Hopefully they'll fit. And on that note i hope the ones i've bought (when the eventually do arrive) are the correct size.

Sorry to here about you back Ballsy, how long have you been out of action for?

We were up that way over new year (Fordyce). Beautiful part of the world and Speyside is a whisky drinkers paradise!!

Not one iota of help, I'm afraid, but still... biggrin

AFAIK, my 4.5 was fitted with a 4.2 'zorst when new. My cats are sitting in my garage (in Devon!!) but when I fitted decat pipes had to get 4.2 ones because they are slightly longer than 4.5's. Diameters are the same I believe - that or I have some Heath Robinson set up with 4.2 cats on a 4.5 exhaust!

Right, i've got my Dad to measure them. The distance between the bolt holes (centre to centre) is 83mm. The diameter of the flared ends are 67mm at one end and 68mm at the other. The overall lenght is 17inches 3/8ths. I'm sure even if there the shorter ones i could fashion brackets to get it through the MOTwink

I still have had no reply from the guy i bought mine off rolleyes

Hi Rob,

My Dads kindly taken all the dimensions for the de-cat measurements. If you could check if yours are around the same size that would be great. This maybe useful dimensions for anyone wanting to make up decat pipes for a 4.2. I've tried to link the photo below

Mine are 16" long, so you'll need some kind of pre-swaged spacer and long bolts i guess?

PM me and i'll give you my address if you think you can make it work.

The only real difference between the 4.2 and 4.5 cats is the length of pipe (oo-er). I had a 4.2 and a 4.5 fitted to mine when I bought the car. Bolt pitches and flanges are the same on the 2 types I had.
