Trev is poorly...

and I'm feeling under the weather too suffering from severe withdrawal symptoms and separation anxiety. Trev's been at the garage undergoing diagnostic tests the result of which has concluded that the ECU is "shot to pieces". I did suspect that it was the ECU responsible for the intermittent loss of power/cutting out and am relieved it's been confirmed as such.

Relieved ONLY because there's 4 weeks left on the warranty and this part will be replaced free of charge...phew

Getting Trev back next week ...just in time for the rain though

Is this a relatively "common" occurrence with Chims or more a case of just being unlucky...any ideas why it may have happened?

Commonest cause is water leaks causing corrosion especially on early Chimaeras

You've been trying to run your 'little electric gizmos' from the cigarette lighter socket again, haven't you, Cosmoschick? All that vibration is no good for your poor little ECU!

Is there anything I can do to help safeguard against this in the future?

or a hairdressers?

Other than that there's a great section in 'the bible' about water sealing the various normal leak places...

Cosmoschick - you could wrap your ECU in a plastic bag and make sure the plug end is facing into the car, i.e. ECU on it's side.

I stop damp air inside my car by putting a couple of those 'caravan moisture absorber' thingys behind the seats, only £3.99 in Halfords (Caravan Section).

You'll be amazed how much water they take out of the air inside your car.

Thanks Jigs...

£3.99 sounds a bargain compared to buying a Boxster and in any case all the girlies drive Porsches in my neck of the woods

The airflow meter has had it too. The warranty company maintain it's consequential damage and are trying to get out of paying for that part so now I have a battle of my hands Why is nothing in life ever straightforward??

Warranty companies are a bunch of thieving bds - best of luck with them, and at least they are coughing up for the ECU, which IIRC is damn expensive.

Julianhj...

The above is just for starters, I'm just getting warmed up for the big one The gears are crunching from 2nd to 3rd no matter how you change up and the dealer agrees that we may be looking at a new gearbox

Nice to meet another local Trev owner

Cosmoschick - re your gearbox problems (change up from 2nd to 3rd)are you sure that you haven't just got too much in your handbag?

Try putting your handbag behind the seats or hang it from the handbrake lever instead of the gear lever.

Don't see how your Airflow Meter can be as a consequence of the ECU problem!

I put my handbag on the floor between the driver's seat and the door...behind seats too dangerous some nutter might grab it.

I agree re. airflow meter but they're trying to say one has caused a problem to arise with the other but they'd pay for the more expensive part that needs replacing. Hmmm....anyway after meeting with the rep today they've backed down and are going to pay for both parts...RESULT!!

Glad to hear it - you must have used your TVR Girlie charms on him! Now try him for a respray and engine upgrade.
