hi all

i'm getting back into riding after 10 yrs off. now 34 and doing my licence (other bikes were in south africa).

was thinking of a cbr 600 RR but insurance seems steep smile

sooooooo.

i like the look and sound of a monster. got a quote on the 620 (5-6 yr ol) and was £280 fully comp and £87 TPF&T.

what are people's thoughts on the monster?

i'm not looking for all out speed - not after 10 yrs out of the saddle - not yet anyway biggrin

i did like the look of the speed triple - why would *you* choose this over the monster though?

I bought a Fazer thou six months after running around on a 600 mostly because the insurance was remarkably cheap; for some reason AXA regard it as a low risk, little more than a budget 600 and far, far less than a sports 600 like the CBR.

The fact that it has an R1 sourced engine and frame would seem to be lost on them, but not me! biggrin

So much choose with the naked middle weights, there all sound as a pound, id just go for whats nearest at the right price, fazer's nice and sporty, same with the speed triple, the bandit and hornet are the more boring 2, and the monster is just sexy.

I read this post and went away to check out some quotes for myself as I am in a not dissimilar position, gone back to biking after a break and have no valid no claims bonus as it has expired long ago. I have an Aprilia at the moment while I get back into the swing of things, and a TDR250 'project' ongoing. I had planned to get the CBR600 in a month or two.

CBR600RR is about £340 a year.
R1 or Gixxer thou is about £450 a year.

Aprilia RS250 is £126 a year (the bike I am riding presently). Wheelie hooligan TDR250 only £92 a year. Wahey! No need to insure the TDR as it is in bits, no MoT etc, just a project.

Most surprising (after getting over the shock of my first ever two-digit premium on the TDR) of all was the Z1000 (new naked thing) £177 a year!

Hmmm. Food for thought, I will have to have a closer look at these nakeds...

I'd better hope so I've got a deposit on one sitting at the dealer. I cant register it yet as i cant get insurance beacuse I dont yet have the licence...

I was getting quoted 310 on a brand new M695 no experience parked in locked shed in the midlands no extra security and full business use...

Some cracking deals on M695's at the mo as well as they clear th decks for the M696

I started looking for second hand ones, but they shoot out of the shops and aint that much cheaper

cheers

M600 was my first big bike. Probably never had more fun on 2 wheels to be honest - enough power (and noise with some hi-level Sils) to be great fun without being bonkers fast. And I still think they look soooo nice.
