2 or 4 stroke? How much fuel will I get through just running a fridge over 5 days?

We had our 4 stroke running for the full 7 days last year and it was about four full jery cans worth! On that we had fridge, freezer, lights, radio kettle etc all running fine. Definately go for 4 stroke, saves messing about with mixing it especially if the weather is st! And saves having to go buy new plugs cos someone got the mixture wrong (see 2006!)Also recommend you get a 240V gene as it saves messing about with trannies etc and you know whatever you plug in will work on a 240V without any worries.

Don't forget feck off chaoin and padlock to lock it so someones steel wheel rim!

Modern 2 stroke engines hold the oil in a seperate tank and mix it themsleves (one fill of oil to every 15 tanks of fuel or something like that). Only thing with being in a car with a lack of space to take a large 4 stroke.

Can see you point if you have limited space though, we go in a Renault Traffic so space isn't really a problem!

Not really, all scooters have had this for a few years now. Just wondering on the fuel consumption on a 2 vs 4 stroke. Obviously either is only going to be under very light load (less than 100w for a average fridge)

1100w isn't enough to run a kettle properly, you need to rent/buy a decent 4kva or higher generator to run a medium camp site, as soon as you plug in your lights, fridge or freezer, stereo etc that little 1100w genny will just die. We had a 5kva rental that powered a large chest freezer, big plasma TV, reasonably large stereo system, loads of lighting, microwave and some other bits and bobs and it did the job fine, there were times though when everything was on and the freezer kicked in and the lights would dim a little. It all depends on what you are running, check the wattage and do your own calculations.
BTW, don't think i've ever sean a 2-stroke genny, god that would be a noisy little bugger!

Have a look at most of the cheap ones 700-900w ish for about £60 are 2 strokes and remarkably quiet. Must be some trick exhaust silencer or something.

I have one very similar to that. You fill it up with petrol then add a measurement of 2 stroke oil (mesuring thing should be supplied) directly into the tank then put the lid back on and fire her up. I get about 4-5 hours off one tank usually depending on what's plugged in. Not the quiestest things in the world though. Helps if you are camping at the edge of the field so you can hide the genny away in a hedge or something otherwise you might annoy your neighbours.

Not seen it posted on this thread yeat but pitch up next to some with a 2 stroke genny and see how long it last's before someone weewee's in the tank or puts it out of service.

If you are going for it get a 4 stroke, much quiter and you are more likely to get offers of beer in return for a couple of hours phone charging than wondering why the thing died at 3am and smells of wee and sugar.

Based on your average 1000w genny, lets say a 6L capacity fuel tank. How many times would I have to refill a 20L jerry can?

What do people normally do, take a few jerry cans with them or fill them up during the week while down there?

Fuel consumption varies a lot depending on how much load they're under. Last year our 2 stroke used about 20l from weds to sun night, running about 16-18 hours a day on average but only running a small fridge off it and phone/camera chargers.
We just had 1 20l can but you could always pop out to get more when doing a food run or even syphon some out your car.

OMG, seeing your list of "attachments" I would have been driven mad by the genny noise had I been nearby! Me staying in Parking Blanc and sleeping in the motor away from the camping (I do understand why it must be great fun for all of you on a site),as in the past, looks the right decision for me! Let's all enjoy LM 08 in our own ways!

Last year we had a £10 solar trickle charger which managed fine charging phones and LED lights and chilled the beer with a big cool box and 2kg of ice added to it each day. The only thing we missed was a stereo so this year we'll be taking a deep cycle battery, more solar panels and a jumpstart pack (going in an MR2, Elise and Boxter rather than just the Lotus last year so more space) and we should be fine. A £50 solar briefcase from Maplin and a cheap old battery should be just as good as a genny unless you're running an electric fridge.

in `05 `06 `07 ran it all day every day for 4 days and used about 4-5 gallons. Ran full fridge, 2 x strip lights, electric cold box and charged all our camera and mobile phone batteries. We shut it down every night at around 2am and started it up again at about 9am. Everything stayed cold and fresh great little generator.

Will not run a proper domestic kettle or toaster, who needs one, get a £10 mini gas stove from Woolworths and other leading shops for your water.

Its a no-brainer, get a Wolf (or similar) low price, quiet(ish) economical and small.

You wouldn't have been disturbed by the genny, we don't like listening to it either so it's always put somewhere sensible, and if necessary we take materials and tools to build a box around it to deflect the noise. You would however be disturbed by us partying all night, word of advice, don't camp in Houx Annexe if you like your sleep! And yes mate, we plan to be enjoying LM08 to the max, can't frikin wait
