This old chestnut again.
Unfortunately only a hint of truth in the story. Tornado GR4s (the bomber version) have an electronic warfare system that detects and attempts to counter a 'hostile' system. I can't comment on its performance against a radar speed trap, not knowing what frequency the traps work on.
However, sidewinder missiles are heat-seekers, and can only lock onto a target with a significant heat source that is distinguishable from its background, i.e. NOT a warm copper against a warmish background (unless he was really really fat and hot and sweaty)
. The sidewinder element of the story is a bit of a red herring. However, there are weapon systems that are designed to work against radar threats, but these are very unlikely to have been carried at that time.
