I put this in GG, but think it might be more appropriate here:

Well, no big deal really, but was on my way home down the ever-crowded Interstate 10 from New Orleans in my Old XJS looking forward to a quiet night at home. Along comes two typical juniors with balls bigger than brains in a well-used Honda Accord, complete with fart can exhausts....it's loud, therefore, it must be fast. They passed me at around 85 MPH with a look of smugness that demanded the reluctant action of a Piston Head 40 month member! As all of adequate experience know, the XJS is not an off-the-line car but shines from 70-140. The old girl hiked up her skirt and passed at a brisk 130. The look on the face of those children when a car and driver, with a combined age of 56 years, left them hanging as they topped out around 110 made my night. Nothing special, just an unexpected and welcome addition to my evening.

biggrin

Fun way to move a smile from their faces to yours

I enjoy it in my XK150 too, quite often people try silly things thinking "I'll just get out before that old car" and then their expression when they completely fail to keep up as you accelerate up an on ramp past them is a real treat. Or push the car hard into a sweeping Motorway junction and blast past them, coz actually your balls are bigger than theirs, and you've learned to corner smoothly rather than sawing away on the wheel round the bend.

There was a lovely posting on the XK list on Jag-Lovers a month or so ago. One of the occasional listers has an XK120 which was LUMPed back in the late fifties with a fairly series bit of Detroit V8. Anyway he was out for a leisurely drive when some guy in a hot 70s or 80s 911 comes up behind him, then pulls out to over take. So he decided to floor the XK and wave good bye. The 911 driver was very interested to have a look at the car later and see what was under the hood.
