So after too much work and not enough attention to my Chim, ill be putting her on my own Maha rollers tomorrow!

Just wandered what you guys think she will make.

She is a 96 400 with 55k and original cam and setup as far as i know. I recently changed the oil, fuel and air filer, plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm and breathers.

I want to see 200 BHP

place you bets gentleman:

let you know tomorrow evening how she did

How do you mean which type of dyno?
LPS 2000 Maha eddy current type!

I will get both figures, wheel and fly!

I meant 200 @ the fly!

Or do you mean continuous/ discrete measurement; i will run continuous measurement. The same as most people are accustomed too and better on the car than holding the load on

edited to add she had 54k on the clock at the time!

Apparently the 'Dyno-jet' type (US) give a substantially higher reading than the usual dyno's used by (for instance) Austec, Surrey Rolling Road etc...

200 at the Fly seems a little low to me.

I would'nt get too hung up on figures.
Its the real world where it counts. My 400 is standard (inc cam) with just under 71k on the clock. My brothers 4.3 pre-cat griff has had Power work on it and gives out 275 horses (with printout proof) and 14k since rebuild.
We've had many a hoon and discussion.......when were rolling and we both give it the beans he only very slowly pulls away???

Now i'm either extreamly lucky and have a stupidly healthy standard car with close to 250 horses.....or the difference isn't that big of an issue. As has been said over and over again, every car is different.....its how it feels that matters.

My 2p's

Oh....and 220bhp and 265ft torque is my guess!!

My (to the best of my knowledge) bog-standard '99 400 56k miler just ran a 250 bhp and 280 torque - here's hoping you get the same at least!

You sure? TVRs own optimistic power figures for the 400 were 240bhp fly. Good on you if correct but seems a little high for a 400 - more into 450 figures.
Where was this recorded and on what rollers? Mine was with Vixpy at SRR.

RIGHT RESULTS IN!

Well fella's seems your all a little optimistic!

My rollers are the same as Austecs by the way!

Ok on my first run it made 189.1 BHP @ the fly but that was in a low scale reading (rollers do 0- 180BHP mode and 180-360 BHP mode).

So with a reconfigure and a better rev calibration the results were:

181.5 BHP @ fly
139.0 BHP @ wheels
42.5 BHP drag output

Max power at 111mph or 5010 (4th gear)
Maximum torque was 203 lbf-ft at 88 mph or 3980 rpm

Max speed I took it too in 4th was 117 mph at 5290 rpm (could see power dropping off so didnt push her further)

Did some acceleration tests using 1050 kg as the input mass, giving a messy 30-70 cos 2nd gear didnt quite make it, so i did another run of 40-90 mph in 3rd in 7.6 secs.

Maximum speed in 5th with 1050 kg mass was 153 mph on the rev limiter!

I would conclude my cam is soft.

so in short:
181.5 BHP @ 5010 rpm fly power
203 lbf-ft @ 3980 rpm
30-90 in 7.6s
maxm speed 153 mph on the limiter

Just to clarify the rollers are accurate:

our box fresh 2.0 V6 X-type made 153 BHP out of 157 BHP on old fuel.

My saab 9-5 made 173 BHP over factory 175 BHP and she has got 172 k on her (altho the engine has been rebuilt with new turbo).

She was not long calibrated so i trust these rollers

just an observation.... my speed per 1000 rpm with a T5 'box in 4th is 20mph (15mph in 3rd, 25mph in 5th) - yours is 22mph - what 'box have you got?

I have a T5. The calibration of rpm is from the driver holding the car against an agreed indicated rpm whilst the operator hits the set button on the PC. Any variation in the two, ie what i see, when the operator inputs the revs will give an innacuracy.

We do try and gross error check this. Normaly ill hold the equivalent amount of fingers up to the operator as i pass each bench mark, ie 3 fingers for 3000 rpm, 4 for 4000 rpm etc. this gives the operator chance to see if the revs are off. This will not however affect the BHP output. The first time i did this i stupidly calibrated the revs whilst in 2nd gear and got 189 BHP @ 9600 rpm! I had just been rolling road testing a 2 geared kart and was not thinking!
