I've just returned from an 11 day holiday in Holland to find no NIP yet from the A14 leg of my journey I'm pleased to say!

About 11 days ago I was driving along the A14 between the M6 and A1 at a nice comfortable 82 mph, a speed sufficiently fast to promote a good level of concentration rather than a soporific 70 mph that would have caused my concentration to wander.

Anyway, my Bel Euro 330 suddenly alarmed "Laser" in a chattering sort of manner which was different in character from the occasional false alarm, then there was a second alarm and a third all within a 3 or 4 second window by which time I'd slowed to 68 mph. Sure enough there was a talivan at the end of a long straight road that had started to target me at almost 1000 yards. There were no other cars between me and it, the road was that quiet! (kerrrching!) I resumed my safe 82 mph after the first bend of course.

I reckon without the detector I would now have a NIP for 82 in a 70. I'd be much happier if I'd bought a laser jammer and maybe I'll get around to it soon! I know they've got a few more days yet but in my previous (limited) experience NIPs have arrived within four days.

At 82 on the speedo of my Ford Mondeo my Road Angel says i am doing an almost legal 74!!! Be a bit harsh to get a ticket for 74 in a 70!!
Its a little bit closer in the Tiv i get to drive.
I've tried it out in about 6 cars now and EVERY car reads high by a varying amount. A little research shows that it is illegal to have a speedo that reads low, but not to have one that reads high.... and so the majority manufacturers put a little 'leeway' in.

Still, that said, I hope you are lucky and that your Laser detector saved the bacon!! You never know how picky these Talivan operators are

The car's a VW Golf TDI130 and I'm pretty sure the speedo reads no more than +2 at 80. They'd probably send a NIP at 79mph so it's all a bit marginal. But I still reckon it saved me a further 3 points and £60.

I reckon you're right!!

Damn good investment these detector thingies Hope the laser detector with my RA works as well. Interesting to see how varying the speedo's are though. Tried it with a Swiss Freelander and that was only a couple of KPH different, yet my girlfriends Golf was about 9 mph at 90!!! I reckon all Speedo's should be calibrated and give us all a fighting chance eh??

There is not much tolerance on these new speedos. On the Merc C-class when the speedo says 80 the GPS is saying 78 so there aint much in it!

Reckon you should be OK though

But then again when you start to get over the ton (on a private test track of course) the over-reading increases. I heard that tyre distortion had quite a large effect at very high speeds due to the rolling circumference changing?
