torque converter question

I'm a novice when it comes to these things, but I suspect the switchtronic box might be slipping on my B3 can anyone tell me how to confirm this and what needs repairing or replacing?

fraid not, wifey needs auto and I want to keep the car as original as poss

I can live with it for now but had a quote from ZF for a TC and box rebuild at £1050 plus vat....which is fair I spose
