OK, I have a spoiler I want to spray up. Don't mind paying a pro but wouldn't mind giving it a go myself. It's fibreglass with a rubber edge.

I'll try to take off the rubber edging so I don't have to mask it off.

So, I know I'll have to rub down the current paintwork on it to key it, and then primer it before spraying. Do I then need to lacquer it?

It's solid black which should make it easier, and I know I should do more thin coats than risking trying to spray it on thick. This'll be from rattle cans BTW.

I don't have a garage but I do have a sheltered area where I can spray.

Am I better to put it on newspaper and do one side at a time, or try to suspend it somehow?

How many coats of primer/topcoat will I need? How long inbetween? do I then need to cut back the final topcoat?

Any advice gratefully received!

If you want good results, this is always going to be something you have to have the right environment for, the skill, and the correct tools.

I don't know about the skill, but since you're asking, I guess not. The tools, not spray cans. If it's not too windy, a sheltered spot might be allright, but what are you going to do about the flies, they love the smell of solvent.

If you can afford to get someone else to do this, do so.

I know how you feel. I absolutely hate asking other people for practical help, particularly on things of this sort. I have accepted for some time that painting cars is just one of those things for which I must be self effacing, and it genuinely pains me!

When you find one let me know, I have front and rear spoilers that need doing.
