On the beg, racing bike front wheel or axle
Discussion
I'm quickly on the beg through an acto fo kindness that has bitten me on the bum.
I've been amassing parts over the years and eventually ended up with enough to build another racing bike up, all the parts are classic (screw on rear block rear wheel and block, down tube shifters, non indexed campag rear mech, the lightest crankset I have ever felt in my life) you get the idea, it's all old and worth nowt, but all really nice quality, would have been expensive when new, and will make an obsolete but nice to ride bike, I have just refinished a nice frame I have had for best part of 15 years with geometry that really suits me, and it now looks stunning (pics to follow), but now comes the problem.
I had a pair of old wheels (complete) that were pretty shot, hubs were notchy, rims were as straight as julian clary, and they were only cheap nasty ones to start with, a chap I know needed a pair of cheap wheels desperately so I gave them to him warning him they were junk. I then picked up 3 wheels for this project, a good Shimano 105 hubbed alloy rimmed wheel complete, a nice front and rear wheel with alloy hubs and rims, straight and good condition complete except no axles/bearings/cups/spindles.
So I'm on the beg, has anyone got either a good straight front wheel very cheap (not after anything flash, cheap is the order of the day, so far the project is sub £50 I'd like to keep it that way) or at the very least a front axle (cup and ball type, hollow) with some balls, and nuts, and hopefully even a spindle. I would go on ebay but there is nothing cheap and cheerful on there at all!
700c btw.
Cheers!

Anyone please:? I'm happy to pay a tenner or so plus post for an old but true halfway decent (something like a shimano hub) 700c wheel. Must be loads of these sat in peoples sheds, my recycled bike needs it
I'd buy one off ebay but there seems to be nothing except total junk, or top line stuff and thats a waste on a recycled bike!

Doesn't have to be old fixed.
I'll tell you the story, it's a budget bike using mainly nice but cheap bits, currently I have a frame with amazing geo for me fits like a glove, but was scruffy, that has now been given a make over and looks gorgeous, I'll be posting pics soon, I have a halfway decent shimano 105 rear hub on an alloy rim, a nice suntour almost brand new sprint cluster would have been expensive when new, an old campag rear mech again like new, a pair of lovely alloy levers, campag headset and bb, a pair of the lightest cranks I have ever felt no name but they weigh half as much as campag veloce, pair of campag chorus pedals and cleats, selle italia saddle, cinelli classic NOS stem.
I'm missing a seatpost, I have some old bars that will do, I need some brake calipers, I might make do with my brake levers out of my bargain box of junk, and the big items I need are front mech (ebay), chain (LBS) and a front wheel which is proving a nightmare, thing is the whole build is currently well under £50, and will look lovely when done, the 105 rear wheel is ok, I have a front wheel laced up with hub but no axle or cups, I assume it will be true when I get an axle in, but a full wheel gives the extra confidence because last thing I want is to spend time on the bike and end up with a bike with knackered old wheels that is a pig to ride. I keep missing wheels and hubs on ebay as they go expensive for pretty mundane things, I don't really want a bare hub as then it will cost a further £15 to get it laced up, starts to look expensive when you look at total cost of build (I will point out last bike I built was a pin with full campag daytona gear and was far from cheap, but this bike isn't that!)
The frustrating thing is for £90 I can buy a wheelset from campag, brand new, complete wheels and they look lovely, not amazing quality but as budget wheels total bargain, but the rear wheel is no use to me due to me using old style rear block and mech and levers, and for me to change to cassette,10speed mech and ergo's will take the budget bike in to proper bike territory and it will never be that, this is really aiming at being my last old school build, using up the last of the old components.
So in answer to your question if you have a 700c wheel, alloy hub, alloy rim, relatively straight, QR axle (don't care what skewer if any) preferably 23-28mm wide that would be much appreciated and I will happily pay for it.
