Hello smile

How do I stop cats from sleeping (and generally lounging about) on my car? Before anyone says shoot them, as Notax has suggested - sadly the guilty parties are actually often MY cats rolleyes

I have a car cover which obviously stops getting cat hair over the soft top, but then they're sleeping on the cover! I don't get what the attraction is, and I don't know how to stop them quickly. And yes - as soon as I see one of them on there I am running outside like a lunatic and throwing water over them. Sadly a) the cats have a goldfish memory and come back 5 mins later, and b) everyone in my street now thinks i'm derranged.

I know cats don't like citrus / tin foil etc, and whilst this has some success on kitchen units and stuff it not an overly practical solution for a car wink

Any ideas? Has anyone had the same problem?

Thanks!

Use a supersoaker, fill it with the cheapest cola you can find and put it in the fridge. When you see the blighter is on the car, remove from fridge, shake'n'pump then squirt. A jet of freezing super saturated sugar syrup will clag up the cats fur for a few hours of cleaning. 2-3 times will stop even the most dim witted of moggies.

Cayenne pepper is also good. Sprinkle a little on the roof or even mix with the cola.

I have heard of people using ultrasonic rat deterrents. Not sure how well they work.

I think they just like soft tops in general....they are like hammocks for them...I used to have the same problem, so I would put the shower cape on (to save hoovering cat fur off every week!) and then let our cat sleep on there.

We did have some funny moments, especially when he was fast asleep and wouldnt wake up...Id get 200m down the road, doing like 15-20mph and he'd wake up and jump off ! smile ..it was a funny sight

Put blocks of camphor around your car. That worked for me a while ago for another car.

No chance of keeping my cat off her car. She is very fussy about her elise and she even keeps a very close eye on any work I'm doing for her!

Same problem for me, I've given up keeping them off but the best way to get the hair off is latex gloves.

the engine's warm... just like how they sleep on your TV's, those wierd things... the deterrents work using those high-pitched sounds that humans apparently can't hear, problem is you're never too sure if it's really working then...
shoot them, you'll regret not doing so the moment they start to use the car's body as a scratch post...

It may not work but sure sounds fun for a bit of sport.

Hair off the roof not the cats, doesn't stick like sellotape but gathers the hairs up.....although wearing latex gloves in public does feel a little weird !!!

This can get real serious when the cat decides to sharpen its claws on the roof. I outrun Linford Christie over 100 metres chasing down a cat which was gearing up to do this. I tried everything but no matter what, the neighbour's cat would jump on the roof. It started to dive onto it from treetops, too - thought someone had vandalised the car once as the roof had caved in.

The sonar thing worked on some cats - not this bloody one, it came up to it and pissed on it.

Then the local cat lads came around for a fight - all trying to gain the roof as their territory.

I built a garage.
