2.5 TDI Allroad
Discussion
I am looking to buy an Allroad V6 TDI. i have whittled it down to a choice of 2, 1 is Auto and 1 is manual 6 speed. i have had an S4 before but wanted the opinion of some owners.
I need the higher suspension to get up the farm track and the 4wd in winter because I am out in the sticks.
I also intend to do some occasional towing with it (historic racing car and trailer)
What is the Auto like compared to the manual in terms of relative performance, towing ability and fuel economy?
Any thoughts?
Neil.

The allroad is great offroad. However fuel economy is not so good! My new 3.0tdi A6 is actually better than the 2.5tdi Allroad I had.

I haven't tried a manual but my own 2.5TDI tiptronic is perfectly mated to the engine. Stick it in Sport mode, bury right foot and it will really move. With all that torque what's the point of a manual? It's not a sports car. Auto will hold its value more than a manual.
Agree about the lousy economy. 22mpg around town and 36mpg on the motorway if you don't cane it. Superb all-around car though. Best thing I've driven on the long haul to South of France and eats pot holes and speed bumps for breakfast.
Make sure anything you buy has had a cambelt change. My Audi tech now says this should be done at 40,000 or four years. A big job as the front end of the car has to be dismantled. Expect to pay £650 at a good independent. Main dealer price? Don't ask.
Search out a last edition '05 Limited Edition. It comes with all the toys for around £21,000.

I've bought a few of these for freinds & clients, the Auto imho is the better car, the manual has a very short 1st gear making it pretty useless. Autobox suits the engine & car rather well. Both are excellent towcars.
For some reason the A6 Tdi quattro is quite a bit more eco or the ones I've used anyway.
