I've used no nails, so far so good
Good call on the no more nails - i have used that for other jobs and it works a treat!Lets see if it works at high temps - otherwise i'll have to go find Nick's suggested high temp solution.
thanks guys

Not as messy as no nails and can be pealed off if need be.

Think i will still have the same problem i had this afternoon though - tried no more nails (got the stuff that goes upto 90 deg), but too difficult to apply in situ. Looks like i will have to take the bonnet off, if i have any chance of making a good seal!
Is it easy to get off? (the bonnet that is)

You can do it in situ. I replaced the entire heatshield without taking off the bonnet (billy no mates)
Get a load of blankets to cover the engine with and do the heatshield in two halves - bulkhead end first. The pressure of the weight of the bonnet is enough to hold it in place because the silicone is sticky anyway.
When you've got the main of the heatshield stuck you should be able to go around the edges and stick them because the heatshield will bend to the shape you want and stay there.
Its even better if you can get hold of some small springy clamps though.

The Griff Bonnet is simple to remove; pull the bonnet release lever to release the catch. Lift the edge nearest the windscreeen. Where the hinge joins the bonnet is a sliding tube on the shaft. Pull it down and then the ball that is attached to the bonnet can be pulled out. Repeat on the other side. Lift the bonnet off and store carefully.Colin
It's a bit late for this topic I know but hopefully useful for future enquiries. The stuff I've been recommended to use by Topcats Racing is something called Bodyline High Temperature Trim Tack. This was origally supplied by Partco but has now been sold on to a company called PPG. There are two types, Liquid (Part ref BHTT1) and Aerosol (BHTTA). Contact details for suppliers are
01604 624211 - Northampton
01256 320641 - Basingstoke
It costs around £20 a litre. Less for the aerosol (£15 ish) but obviously less in it.
Cheers
Andy.
